Monday Morning Centre Back: Mocking the Draft

Hopefully everyone had a great holiday season!

I enjoyed some time off and backed off on the blog work a little, but with the new year here, it's time to get things going again and turn our attention to the Combine and SuperDraft.

The MLS Combine begins Saturday, January 8th and runs through the 11th. If you aren't able to attend the games live, MLSSoccer.com is planning on streaming all of the combine matches live. Hopefully the technology will work out and we will be able to get a look at the of the possible face that could be in naranja when training camp opens next month.

The SuperDraft is scheduled for next Thursday (1/13) in Baltimore, MD. I'll be spending the next week discussing the combine and draft and doing my best to prepare Dynamo fans for the possible moves the team might make.

Part of this process will occur tomorrow when SB Nation holds a live mock MLS SuperDraft in which all the team bloggers and various other dignitaries will attempt to predict just what each team will do in next week's actual draft. As the editor of Dynamo Theory I will endeavor to read the minds of Chris Canetti and Dominic Kinnear and see if I can predict their decisions on draft day...we will see how that goes.

Ether way, it should be a fun experience that will be followed live on the SB Nation Soccer website with commentary from everyone involved. In addition, I'll be posting here on Dynamo Theory about my picks and why I think they would be potential good moves for the Dynamo.

Until then, I'd like to hear from Dynamo fans about their thoughts on what the team should do during the draft. There will be several quality Generation adidas players available at the 7th pick, including (hopefully) one or two talented forwards that could both potentially contribute and work as Brian Ching's understudy.

Let me know your thoughts about the draft.

Priorities

One has to think that Canetti and Dom’s top priority has to be picking up an out-and-out striker who can make an immediate impact on this team. With Oduro gone(?) and Ching not getting any younger, the team will need a “natural” striker with pace. So far, I think the FO has done a solid job of sealing up and bulking up the defense and think that the attack needs the same treatment.

Depending on who is available

I agree with some stuff I’ve read that the likely selection is Soares if he is available. And I can’t say I’d be saddened by that.

I think the ideal pick would be a striker, but if there is a more talented defender available when the 7th pick comes up, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Dynamo go that direction.
