Wednesday Orange Slices: #Davis4MVP

Have some free time and want to raise a ruckus? DC United's Director of Marketing Communications Kyle Sheldon (@kylesheldon) is being openly anti-Brad Davis for MVP on Twitter. So, do with that information what you will.

@kylessheldon, make the playoffs and then talk about DeRo’s MVP bid. It’s not a Player of the Year award and you guys can miss the playoffs without DeRo.

well...

If I’m trying to look at the MVP race without bias, DeRo and Davis are both good candidates. I want Davis to win because he’s a Dynamo, but would I really be that upset if Dwayne took it? Davis has had a great season without a doubt and regardless of that trophy, Davis and DeRosario will still be two of the standouts of the season. My last candidate that I wouldn’t be upset with if they won would be Shea. Shea stepped up his game when his team was looking for somebody to run the attack; that’s what a valuable player does.

For me it's called the most valuable player award

How can you be the league’s most valuable player when you are traded twice in the same season. Brad Davis means more to his team than anyone other player in the league by far. Dero might have the goals, but that’s not what the award is about. Dero is probably a better player in general, but that is not what the award is about either. To me the award should be about who does the most for his team, and that’s Brad Davis by a mile.

The stat about Brad Davis creating 112 scoring chances, 66 more than second place, tells the whole story for me.

Stands and claps

Perfectly said. DeRo has scored plenty, and for that he should get a gold boot or something. Becks has assists, but I could’ve made half those assists considering the team LAG has. But you put it perfectly: who was the most valuable to their team? It’s Brad Davis, absolutely no doubt. The stat about creating scoring chances highlights that along with his assist totals, plus the fact that he is one of the main reasons we’re heading into the playoffs. Also, our two main strikers have been injured part of the season (Bruin/Ching) and our other main striker played on a bum wheel all season long…yet somehow we scored and we stayed in the afloat. It was due to Mr. 11, Brad Davis.

Give the man his trophy.

Davis

effectively helped get us in the playoffs. Other than Shea, I don’t think any other potential MVP candidate can say that; yes, Becks has assists but its freakin’ LAG, I’d expect him to have that many considering all of their attacking options. DeRo has been great, but as Martek pointed out, here’s how we can weigh the two: take DeRo away from DCU and how have they fared. Now take away Davis and ask yourself how the Dynamo would’ve fared. When Ching was out (and even when he wasn’t), Davis was either one of our only scoring threats or if he wasn’t scoring he was directly making assists. He kept us afloat this year, plain and simple. Like I said, I think Shea is the only other one you could argue was as valuable

I'd like to add....

Portland just tied DCU which makes DCU unable to compete in the post-season. Oh and DeRo had a goal to his name, but it was the tying goal, not the one that brought them into the playoffs.

How did we start our run into the playoffs? Against Portland…and on a B. Davis assist. I love DeRo and if he wins it, I wouldn’t be all that unhappy because, well, he’s a former Dynamo. But to me the one player that helped a team into a playoffs would be Davis. Shea is on Dallas…the reigning losers at the MLS cup and we should ignore anyone from LAG because a single player does not rule that team – though a few of them sell a lot of tickets.

Davis ftw =D

And

in Dallas’ case, all the players combined don’t sell alot of tickets

/waka waka

But yeah, I’d like to think the last game perfectly captured the #Davis4MVP campaign

As inconsistent and maddening...

…as this sesaon has been at times, how’d you like to be a United fan? All those games in hand. All that promise. Every now and then something really amazing. And when ti all counts, when it’s time to start setting the account and get that Black eagle rising again, with many games to play you…

Implode.

And why again was it that DeRo scotched the trade back to Houston from Toronto earlier in the season? I hope he reflects on that a lot between now and when he actually starts playing again in March.

Eek

Yeah, that’s an example of what not to do. I agree that this season has had its fair share of face-palm moments, but give credit to the boys: when the season was on the line, they stepped up and did what had to be done. Same can’t be said for DCU.

And methinks that had that trade gone through we’d be perhaps looking at Koke 2.0

I'll be casting a media ballot for the 2011 MLS Season Awards

I’ll post my selections sometime next week so you can see what I chose and either applaud or jeer me.

Now you have the juice

Ginge, a man with a voice in media…hey that’s awesome. Though of course, I am curious to see your picks :)

Charlie Davies

Sueing a nightclub because you got into a car with a drunk woman driving and then getting into a fatal accident. I’m not a fan of this litigious business. He should accept responsibility for his poor decisions and not blame someone else. He must be looking for that easy money to assuage the fact that he’s not in the USMNT conversation.
