You know
somewhere, deep in the recesses of my psyche and heart, there’s actually a twinge of sadness for FCD: not so much for the team or the city or the organization, per se, just on principal. They should be a better team: they have far more resources and frankly, probably more talented team than we have – and more than most in the league – yet it seems to be one misfire after another. They’ve got a relatively new stadium/park…but its WAY outside the city (it’d be like putting Dynamo Stadium in the Woodlands), their attendance and support has been laughable, and at times they just simply look like a bunch of guys out there playing…not necessarily playing together, just playing. Don’t get me wrong, its delicious schadenfreude but you look at them and say “really? This is FC Dallas?” A couple more seasons like this and they’re on the way to becoming the Wile E Coyote of MLS.
But still, BWAHAHAHAHA
As for NYRB, hey, they got the result. I watched the match and it wasn’t great football, but they played well and it was a great pass in to Lindpere who snuck in to poke the goal home. And then the last one was just Henry having fun; that’s the kind of goal he’d score doing a commercial or something…but hey, what do you do?
I think we can get the results against Philly and reading your interview I couldn’t agree more: I think the overall result is 3-1 over the 2 games. I can see us getting a 1-0 result on Sunday and then 2-1 on Thursday…we seem to play similar styles, but we’re just simply playing better now and that confidence and ability to score early and score from different places is what I think will trouble Philly. I know they’re going to key on Davis but having Camargo and Moffat will take some of that pressure off of him; if they can help possess and distribute then it should help keep the Philly D honest and off of Davis.
And one thing to remember
You can key on Davis all you want, but you can’t key on him from a set piece. You just sit in the dentist’s chair while Dr. Davis’ needle gets closer and closer…..

Also
I know the MLS wants a second New York team for (IMHO) no very good reason at all, not one, but I sincerely hope that this ownership shake-up with the Cosmos (which Paul Gardner wrote about on Soccer America here) makes the league look long and hard before saying yes to what looks to me like a weirdo collection of fly-by-nighters. Chivas USA’s continued failure to attract fans (think PHP on an FC Dallas gamenight in the middle of the second-largest metropolis in America) should raise the warning bells. And if that doesn’t, then this ownership weirdness should. This thing has Pandorica-level explosive written all over it.

I think the MLS is not looking that hard at the Cosmos
The Cosmos want to be the next expansion team (after Montreal) but so far the MLS hasn’t taken them too seriously. They’re waiting to be wooed and the attractive NY market is already tapped. The MLS would rather expand to San Diego, Florida, San Antonio, etc (just a few places I remember reading about awhile back).
Exactly
its like the has-been star that suddenly gets put back into the spotlight, only you realize that magic is gone. Cosmos were a sporting and cultural phenomenon at that time, but that time is past and it almost seems like they’re trying to push to the front of the line based on their heyday. Sad, really.
/who wants to watch a reality show with me?
Why don't they do everyone a favor?
Relocate Chivas USA to San Diego or San Antonio. I’m pretty sure they will have way more fans if they moved to a city that DOESN’T have a team
San Diego or Phoenix would make the most sense. While I would love for them to go to San Antonio, I just don’t think the league woul succeed there. It’d be like adding another Columbus.

Sad but true
I read the comment and thought about the same: I’d actually love a team in San Antone’ but just don’t know if they could sustain it right now. Maybe in a few years I think so but perhaps not yet. Do they have an NASL team? I think it’d be very do-able for them
San Diego would make more sense from an MLS perspective right now
funny thing about San Diego though
I read somewhere that it’s tough for teams there to pack in fans. There is typically a lot of commuting involved even if the stadium would be downtown. What’s interesting is it’s a great TV market, but for that reason a lot of fans would rather watch the game at home than go.
Well
I always viewed the Cosmos “thing” with that mystified look of a joke that eventually needed to end, right? It seemed they were doing everything in reverse, and quite publicly and loudly…it could never end well. They were a paper team and now I haven’t the foggiest idea of what they are, other than….the Cosmos? I agree, let the market grow naturally and perhaps in 5-10 years time NY will be ready for another franchise, and perhaps it could be the Cosmos (but I still think it’d be a bad idea).
Does MLS have something in place to what the BPL has in regards to investigating the “fitness” of a potential owner or ownership group? If so, I wonder how this bodes for us in the future…again, I could see in 5 years or so a majority owner or ownership group wanting to buy the Dynamo from AEG
That would be nice. And y’know, with the stadium deal done, they might be willing to sell. But they would always want a stake in that stadium. Remember, the E in AEG is entertainment. They are, at their heart, a concert and event promotion company. Having an “in” at a unique, mid-size downtown venue in the fourth-largest city in the country keeps them interested.

That
friend, would be best for all. AEG gets to turn over the club to someone else (its like shipping us off to boarding school, just permanently) but they still get to get a cut of revenue from stadium events, considering they did put the effort into getting the stadium built. Now if we can just find someone halfway-sane with a net worth of around $1 billion willing to invest in this club…
anyone?
Damn
I think I strike out on both counts
