Know the Dynamo: Playoff Opposition Report - Q&A With a Dynamo Blogger
The Union will play their first ever playoff game on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. against the Houston Dynamo. In anticipation of the game I reached out to Zach Woosley, Managing Editor of Dynamo Theory, for some insight into the Union's playoff opponent. We touched on a number of topics, including a Dynamo scouting report, an out of market view of the Union team and organization, and a series prediction. Many thanks to Zach for his time.

Good stuff
Hopefully we can have this reciprocated? And I will say props to those who are in fact Phunion fans; Philly is DEFINITELY an Eagles, Flyers and Sixers town so getting fans to support them as they have is saying something.
Though aside from the 700 Level and their SB Nation site (which, to be fair, is a bit thin), I’ve been trying to read up and get insights on their team, at least from a fan’s perspective. I do have to say that if I were an outsider looking at our team and trying to glean info about us, this would be a great place to do so
It's a bit what?

Come on, say it
……………..thin? Relatively thin?
/ducks
All I meant was it just seems nascent to me…which of course it is. I mean, you guys are still a new team and that’s to be expected; I know your site will grow even more with time. Don’t worry, the stuff you have is good stuff and in general I love the SB Nation platform that allows fans to talk about their teams, particularly MLS…most of your established, mainstream (guh, I hate using that term) media outlets have anemic coverage. Fear not friend, I wish they would’ve had a team back when I lived there
/yes I lived there and have the social security number to prove it :)
Kessler may be onto something here Michael. He had a nice post of links last night. (Click here.) Lots of good reading.
And, unlike with a certain team in the Pacific Northwest we could all name, I feel no incentive to troll in there and incite the Phunion guys. Fair play, they have created quite a fun time up there and are my favorite squad in the northeast quadrant of the country. No moron owners (NER), sense of entitlement (NYRB) or “Hey! We are the most tradition-laden team in MLS, y’know? Hey! Someone look at us! Hey! Anyone?” pathos (DC United).
And if you didn’t like the Sons of Ben showing up for MLS drafts and screwing with other supporters back before they even had a team, then you have no sense of humor.

I was really just wondering what he meant by thin.
I’m always trying to improve tBG.
I work around college when I write the site and have to deal with the fact that the soccer MSM in Philly really isn’t what people perceive MSM to be in most markets. tBG has broken numerous stories because of the way I’ve positioned the site, and I end up putting news before analysis because of the state of the market right now here.

Hit the nail on the head
its why I clarified in my follow-up: I gathered from reading your site you’re still in college AND trying to build up tBG. For that distinction alone you and the fledgling community there deserve credit. So don’t worry, as I said your site is “thin” as one might expect for a team that just barely shed its placenta, so to speak. But, I have full faith that with time you guys will be adding more and the community will continue to grow; keep it up and we all look forward to it
It'd help if the team was open about anything.
I do appreciate your kind comments.

We sympathize
that seems to be a motif around here…we’ve had quite a few words written about reading the tea leaves based on what the team here says or doesn’t say. We can only hope :)
Believe me
this was not an attempt at trolling, which I can’t necessarily resist when it comes to a certain team in the Pacific NW (then again, they look for trolls where there are none). Perhaps we’re spoiled here at DT, and I tend to think we are, so when I look out at other SB Nation sites DT is my point of reference. And speaking matter of factly, what I said I think still holds true. That’s not a knock on tBG or any other site as I have no personal beefs and I applaud those editors who take up the banner to start a site there. I’m just sayin’ is all.
Predicting a 3-1 win for the Orange on their site Zach. Very nice. Very confident.

makes me want to grab a huge Dynamo flag and run around with it (with an bald eagle flying behind me, of course)
That takes some serious jacobs to that, but, I agree with him. I see us taking the series 3-1
You mean Philly breaks through?
Breaks through Moffat’s cunning tackles, beats Ashe’s speed, beats our red-headed Canadian, out-muscles the Boz, finds a way to beat a MLS best XI (well from 2009) defender, and makes it through Tally Wall?
Maybe…but we’ve only allowed a handful of goals lately. Gotta see how our boys step up to the playoffs. Hopefully with energy, enthusiasm, confidence, and above all…they need to play well.
Exactly
Had the playoffs started a month earlier, I’d be far less confident of our chances…but we got hot at the right time and that makes a huge defense. While we still have defensive lapses, they’re nowhere like they were before (Cam has a huge say in that), and our overall distribution and play – not to mention scoring distribution – makes us a tough team.
