Geoff Cameron is Not a Jesse Marsch Fan
Boom. Well, at least if Ching is gone, we have no doubt that Geoff Cameron is ready to step up in to a team leadership role...not that we ever doubted that would happen anyway.
Well said Geoff. I believe this is what you might call a "verbal bitch slap".

confused...
why is there so much hate towards Montreal and not towards your own FO? i remember last year, when there was talk of leaving Keller unprotected because everyone expected Portland/’Vancouver to pass. that would have been stupid. very similar to Ching.
Right
but imagine if your beloved Sounders were the expansion franchise and selected a highly-paid, oft-injured striker for……..what reason? Wouldn’t it be either seem an odd or spiteful choice?
I know our FO took a big risk leaving Ching out there but Montreal took an even bigger one by selecting him. They have to pay him now even though he’s not going to play for them and is likely going to end up here this year in the FO. So why bother going through the charade?
Montreal have no obligation to sign Ching
And therefore they also do not need to pay his salary.
All they stand to lose in this is one expansion draft pick. And let’s face it, that is not very valuable. Potentially they could gain a lot by trading Ching.
If you wanted Ching so much
why didn’t you protect him? To me that’s a mistake with the Houston FO, not Montreal.

Because Ching is only playing one more season, morons
You do NOT select a player as an expansion team for 1 last season. Especially when he EXPLICITLY says “I’m not going to play in Montreal if I’m selected. I will retire before that happens.” Just because your new FO are MORONS and wasting a selection, don’t act like we’re the idiots here.
Our FO has been playing this game far longer than your FO. Your FO thought they could pull one over on the Orange, but Chinger isn’t going to play for Montreal. Period. End of story. He’ll retire before that happens.

Haha! Morons? Kinnear fits that description! Got caught gambling. Tried to protect 12 players. Chinger will look good in royal blue! Or in a suit. Only other option is sending Hinault home…

Ah
a Sounders fan. Now it makes sense. So listen, go sort out your turf issues (in fact, you might want to conference in Montreal, they’re gonna have similar issues), build a better team than the one you fielded and we’ll worry about bringing Ching back to Houston in the front office.
Turf issues. Low shot across the bow coming from a team that has played at the university of Houston…
Houston is a better team without Ching. They can spend the $400k on some more quality

LAG...
protects Beckham knowing he probably won’t even be in MLS next year. I don’t see why you guys didn’t protect Ching just for 1 year. Houston tried to find a way to protect 12 players. It didn’t work out. Grabbing a player to play for 1 year, a player who can help provide leadership and experience, is a lot more rational than grabbing outgoing players like Portland last year.
It was a gamble to not protect Ching, and Houston lost the gamble. I don’t think you can really accuse Montreal of being classless for seeing an opportunity to grab a good player and call the bluff that’d he’d retire before playing elsewhere.
-Ben R.
Listen
I get what you’re trying to say but again: would any team draft a player who has already said he’s playing one more year? And on top of that, a team that plays on artificial surface drafts an oft-injured 33-year old earning almost half a million? Would you say that’s for any reason that has to do with putting him out on a starting XI? No, its a ploy to get something they know they’re not getting (Hainault, Cameron or Davis)…effectively its either ending his career or holding him hostage. If they wanted a good player with still loads of years in him they could’ve grabbed Cruz. And just to top it off, it was Marsch who made it his first pick…need we say more?
You're right.
Ching said BEFORE the whole Montreal thing that next year would be his last season. It was when he was left unprotected that he threatened to retire. I’m mad at both the FO and Montreal.
Here's the thing you don't get...
Think about all the veteran players who will now not want to sign with Montreal, specifically because they see what has happened to Brian Ching. Think about how much this FO just alienated the good guys in the league. Sure, money talks, but how much MORE are they now going to have to pay than other clubs?
If you put Montreal up against say Toronto FC, and they are offering the same money, as a player after how they handled Brian Ching, you aren’t going with Montreal.
It’s not shrewd, it sets a precedence. F the players. Yea, come see me at the beginning of the season when they can’t find guys to play for them.

The thing about protecting Beckham is that they had to. It is in his contract.
It is called a no trade clause.

Mark this down
Montreal’s 2012 season may just go down as the worst in MLS history. If this is the best they can do, the best, then their future prospects look about as high as Jesse Marsch’s IQ.
May 12, 2012: Please, please please let Montreal be the opponent on opening day. Can you imagine if Cameron is chasing a loose ball along the touchline and his “momentum” just so happens to bring him near that douchebag Marsch? Lower the shoulder and keep on going Geoff.

If I were Marsch
I might have picked Ching on principle, even with no intention of using him. It’s a stupid move on paper, because Ching doesn’t want to be there, is going to retire, is old, etc. But you know what, Canetti and Kinnear (and Ching) tried to con the system and essentially protect 12 players – screw that. You take this risk, you pay the price.

We understand.
Are we not allowed to get mad at Montreal whatsoever? While it was the FO that left him unprotected, it was Montreal that fully understood his predicaments and still picked him.
Honestly, not really
I can totally understand being mad at the situation in general, but getting angry at Montreal for doing something completely within the rules for them to do? And, if anything, encouraged to do, if they believe that acquiring Ching’s rights will make them a better team through play or trade? Nah, I don’t think you can do that.
You can get mad at your own FO, though, which is what I would do if I were in Houston right now. Mad at the situation overall, and mad at Canetti/Kinnear for taking what was probably an unnecessary risk. Unless, of course, Ching was always gonna retire, and he ends up in the Dynamo front office anyway.

Dynamo fans are coming off like the guy at the poker table
who just lost a big pot and is lecturing you on why your play was wrong.
Your FO tried to get cute and protect 12. Looking back at the protected list thread, it seems like most were in agreement that it was a good move (especially the author).
You mis-read the situation, and things didn’t go your way. It’s not Montreal’s fault that they didn’t realize you “were obviously representing a straight flush”. You made a play, and you lost.
@GeoffCameron
Ur FO tries 2 cheat the system + protect 12 + U blame Impact 4 it, lik a 12yo girl txting about her parents? Sign of a real mature guy!
we are better than that
dont worry mike, we all know what you are thinking :)
This also means the majority of teams will not be offering any sort of assistance to Montreal either
Ching is a beloved figure across the majority of teams. Players respect, coaches respect him. When the ball finally rolls for Opening Day 2012, I and the majority of Dynamo fans will look back to this date and mark it as the official Gauntlet thrown.
Montreal has 1 reason which I’ll buy off on for doing this. They are trying to stir publicity. Unfortunately for them…it WILL bite them in the ass.

On another side note...
This is going to fun offseason for us at DynamoTheory. Thanks for the free publicity Montreal. Not to mention the wonderful motivation. Mmm…anybody else remember the SKC game and Cameron’s special moment of fire? Yes…I suspect this will bring out the fire in Cameron for the entire season.

Montreal who?
other than taking Warner from us (not unexpected or groundbreaking) I couldn’t care less about what Montreal was doing this offseason… but they took Ching. this just got interesting and, right or wrong, I have a feeling that this is the kind kind of balzy move that impact fans will love. marsh is basically saying “screw you MLS. we’re doing thing our way”. he couldn’t have made this move without the FOs full backing. I have a feeling that Montreal knew there would be consequences that they think they can handle.
