As long as we didn’t break the bank here, I wholeheartedly agree with this deal. You can never have too many top quality center backs in MLS. Never. Defense wins championships.

The Houston Dynamo have re-signed defender Bobby Boswell, the club announced today. Boswell had been listed among players eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Process, but he agreed to a new contract with the Dynamo on Thursday. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not released.

The 28-year-old Boswell joined the Dynamo via trade in December 2007 and has been a mainstay on the team’s back line ever since, starting 120 of the team’s 133 MLS and playoff games and moving into fifth place in club history with 142 starts in all competitions. After netting a career-high five goals in 2011 to tie for the team lead, Boswell is also tied for 10th in club history with 11 goals in all competitions. He ranks fourth in club history in games started as team captain.

Named the team’s Defender of the Year in 2008 and 2010, Boswell was a key player in memorable playoff shutout streaks in both 2009 and 2011. The veteran has also been a leader in the Houston community, regularly visiting area hospitals and leading the Bobby Boots Breast Cancer campaign as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in each of the last two seasons.

Couldn't have, right?

Considering everything that’s happened after the cup there’s no way we would’ve re-signed him near his previous contract value, right? If we find out later next season when they release the salary figures its anywhere near that then I’ll have to re-assess my thoughts on Canetti and Kinnear.

But rather than jump off the deep end so soon, I’ll say that as long as we didn’t pay alot, I’m very happy we re-signed Boz. He can still contribute on the pitch or still holds value as a potential trade piece

eh even though we have a lot of depth at the CB position...

We do better when Boswell is one of the CBs. A lot has been made of Cameron and our remarkable turnaround – but his partnering with Boswell was also key. Earlier in the year Boswell was also solid, in fact the season began to lose momentum and look bleak when we decided to bench him to try out other options.

I was VERY scared when I saw the Boz on the re-entry draft list. We had one of, if not THE best defense in MLS towards the end of the year. Ashe- Boswell – Cameron – Hainault….cannot be beaten.

Should be exciting to see that back four next year! I love our momentum going into our new stadium. If we won the MLS cup I would have said it’s time to repeat cup wins…again, but since I can’t let’s just bring the cup to our fancy new stadium! (Also would be nice if we’re awarded the neutral site).
