Dom and Steve Head to Glasgow

Celtic-hearts_medium

Apparently, Kofi Sarkodie and Will Bruin are not the only members of the Houston Dynamo across the pond these days. Take a close look at that picture yesterday from Celtic's 1-0 win over Heart of Midlothian at Celtic Park. Reeeaalllll....Clooooosseeee.

See it? No? Well, then, check out this link right here. (If you can download and load that image, then you are a better man than I Gunga Ginge.) (Tip of the tam'o'shanter to Keeper Notes for linking to that photo.)

Dominic Kinnear, the local celebrity member of the Bobby Lennox Celtic Supporters Club wasn't content enough to watch the game at the Firkin and Phoenix yesterday, hauling his assistant coach Steve Ralston to Parkhead to enjoy the Bhoys' win over Hearts and staying within spitting distance of Rangers in the SPL table. Here's the game Dom and Steve saw (apologies for the soundtrack):

I am liking that Victor Wanyama goal and the Fraser Forster penalty save. Glad to see the Hoops put on a show for our Dom, who was born a short bagpipe blast from Parkhead, and Steve. If Dynamo make any SPL raids over the January transfer window, here's photo evidence of our boys at work making that happen.

And before Playtherapy (especially Playtherapy) gets on here and writes something like "Hey, you give Martek half a chance to write about Celtic..." or something like that. I just say wait til they head over to watch Viking FK play in Stavanger, then you may post at will.)

And by the way, from the Keeper Notes Facebook page, here's a comment posted on Jen's link of the photo from Ken Brownlee:

A probable mass exodus from Hearts in January after non-payment of salaries - I'm hoping they've been casting an eye over some above average talent that could be Houston bound next season.

Very interesting. For the Heart of Midlothian roster and more info on the team, click here.

In all honesty...

David Templeton is the ONLY player on Hearts FC I find interesting. He’s fast and plays as either a winger or forward. If we can ink his name on our squad we will have our hands on a young speedy creative guy. He can have the #10 jersey :) (you know what that means lol)

Hmmm

that’s actually a pretty interesting choice. He’s young, quick and tricky and can definitely be a menace on the right wing. If we can get a very good to great CAM I think signing him would be nice, particularly if they’re leaving Hearts in droves. I guess we’ll see what happens…

Hmmm, not much I can say

The Wee-kings do not have the stature of the ‘Northeast of Big D’ Hoopsters. I mean, Celtic is King of the Scottish League, right? Unless their off year of the trophy custody agreement. Do they have to pay trophy support (think child support) payments when the crown does not live with them (like last yr).

Too bad those RyanAir trips to the Continent aren’t paying off, now they can’t even get creamed by Man U.

Pity.

BTW- isn’t Dom heading the wrong direction? Shouldn’t he be heading deep south to scout players a la most other teams? Or isw this just a social visit? If social, the Norsk season has not started yet, but the lutefisk is nice and cold. It’s good as long as you have a head cold and can’t smell.

Being the second assitant entails certain job responsibilities

I think the lutefisk is Wade Barrett’s assignment.

Don't discount scouting the Highlands

I think a player like Adam Moffat proves that there are quite a number of Scottish players, almost all unheralded, who would thrive in MLS. And that would especially be true in Dom’s highly competitive, only the strongest survive, environment.

Caveat

Hate to be a yeah but guy, but yeah but are there any striker types, #10’s, or more central CAM’s? We got enuff tough redwood types to either hoof the ball upfield, or knock a hoofed ball or opposing player down.

We need artisans, not roustabouts. We have enuff roustabouts/roughnecks.

See above

RedAce with his sneaky eye has spotted young David Templeton…fits the bill of a striker-type, sounds almost Dixon-esque (chew on that)

As I posted on the other thread

One day…

When newly crowned MLS MVP Alex Dixon is hoisting the Dynamo’s third MLS Cup, we’ll all look back on this and buy Michael a cookie or something.

And he will bite into that cookie.

And it will be sweet.

And

if its a peanut butter cookie, that’ll help

AAAAANNND

since I apparently have delusions of grandeur and what-not, I’ll liken myself to a modern-day biblical Joseph: persecuted by his brothers for no reason other than jealousy and sport, in the end he benevolently forgives them and welcomes them into his prosperity.

THE END

Hey

I’ve been on the Dixon bandwagon since the beginning. The kid is highly gifted, and I think he needs more chances to shine. In as limited time as we’ve seen him, he put up one of the most memorable goals in Dynamo history. Yeah, give him more time Dom, please.

Join me, brother

and welcome our wayward ones playtherapy and Martek back with open arms once they realize the error of their ways :)

Oh yes

We will welcome them, but not before showering them with shame…

Artistry shmartistry

I think Michael is onto something here. Templeton might be a great fit here for the right money.

I'd love

to take credit but hawk-eyed RedAce is the one who spotted this potential gem…I just second that emotion. I think, like you, that for the right price he might be a great fit as well…

by Michael_D on Dec 12, 2011 4:10 PM CST up reply actions

Why thank you!

I just want to see a different kind of player here with the Dynamo. I don’t want to live the “headers” as goals for my whole life when I’m watching the Dynamo. If we can get Templeton to Houston HE will make Danny work his butt off and we might be able to get rid of someone whose last name starts with a “W”. I thank FIFA 12 for giving me more info on Templeton :P

by RedAce on Dec 13, 2011 2:58 PM CST up reply actions

See?

This is the kind of argument I need to present to my wife:

“Babe, you know that by playing FIFA 12 for several hours that it gave me a comprehensive view of David Templeton, who I then recommended to Dynamo Theory who then passed it on to the Houston Dynamo who then signed him and now we’re MLS champions and they gave me a scarf!!”

But for real, he’s a Scot (which is a soft plus for Dom) who has actual pace and trickery and the talent level easily translates to MLS-level play, and likely even better in his case. Hell, he might give you everything Cruz has and then some (minus some of his more annoying habits). Oh, and as for players whose last name starts with a “W”, there’s no reason he should be back next year.

by Michael_D on Dec 13, 2011 3:45 PM CST up reply actions

I completely agree with RedAce

It’s always nice to have different types of strikers, and right now we could use someone who is the opposite of Bruin, preferably young, somebody with pace and skill, hmm sounds familiar…

by DD77DD on Dec 13, 2011 4:59 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly

don’t get me wrong, Oso is one of our forwards of the future but he needs someone who can be what we had wanted Carr to be (and perhaps what he never would be)…Templeton wouldn’t be a bad way to go
