Say Hello to BBVA Compass Stadium

Photo

Several media sources are reporting that the new Dynamo Stadium will be named BBVA Compass Stadium. The deal is reportedly worth $20 million over 10 years for the team, not to shabby but not as much as you might expect. In all likelihood the team sold the best deal they could and will use the next ten season building the brand even more to help get an even bigger second deal in the future, much like they did with the shirt sponsorship.

For reference, the Philadelphia Union got the same deal from PPL for the naming right on their stadium. Real Salt Lake's deal was in the same region as well. So it appears this is par for the course with MLS stadiums right now.

We will find out a lot more tomorrow when the official announcement is made at 3pm CT by the team at a press conference that will be streamed live on HoustonDynamo.com.

Until then, here's a little bit about our new corporate sponsor:

BBVA Compass is a United States financial holding company headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, with US$65 billion in assets and primarily located in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, and Texas. Compass Bancshares is one of the U.S.'s 25 largest banks, and was previously a member of the S&P 500 Index and the Dow Jones Select Dividend Index.

Very exciting for our team.

Not a shabby deal at all.
Though the name is a mouthful.

Compass Stadium

BBVA is tough to say,
but at the end of the day,
we have a brand new stadium in which to play,
and for that my friend, hooray!

the money seems to be in line with what other MLS teams have gotten recently

The 10th year period is good too. Provides some stability, but we should be able to cash in even bigger down the road if the league continues to grow.

Think about this way. Our roster last year was around 2.5 million, I think. At an average of 2 million a year this covers a large part of our salary requirements

Exactly

I’m quite happy with this deal…as its been noted, its a nice chunk to add to the balance sheet every year and Compass has been around for years (and I don’t see a reason that will change). Helps off-set salaries, has ties here (and internationally with the BBVA Group) so I think its a great start.

So then, shall we christen it “The Beeb”?

PS – Nice initial alert, papa

very nice!

I like it..recognizeable brand, standard MLS deal…wasnt it BBVA that AEG actually used to finance the $$ to build the stadium, too? Nice tie in. Look forward to catching home games at the Compass..:-)
