Dynamo miss out on Edgar Pacheco
Despite having a fundamental agreement in place with Atlas, the Dynamo were turned down by 21-year old midfielder Edgar Pacheco who decided not to come to MLS. It's another dissapointment for the front office who have spent the past months chasing several big names players in an attempt to find a player to help make both and on and off field splash for the team.
The team has until Friday to make a move when the league transfer window closes and there is every reason to believe that will continue to to try to find another signing.

Would you have liked to see the talented young winger in Houston or is a forward more important to the team's success this season?

We are absolutely stacked at Wing...
While yes Brad Davis isn’t getting any younger, the pursuit of Pacheco I imagine was more of a continued line of pursuits made more for the show of things versus actual intent. I believe the Dynamo have every intent to sign a forward and are pursuing these other “options” until they find the one they want.
I think, to be honest, we have plenty of talent at wing. We haven’t even tapped Appiah, who is most suited for a right wing role. At least, that is where he is suited according to FIFA, though who can count on them for anything?
I just hope the Dynamo don’t get stuck in this rut of pursuing Mexican internationals. I seem to recall the previous Mexican DP kind of uh…sucking major wind if you know what I mean.

Sammy Appiah is no longer on the team as far as I can tell…he’s not on the official roster anymore

I wonder if he was part of some trade we made at some point?
Or if he was just outright released. I’m surprised we didn’t actually hear anything about it at all. Either that or I’m just forgetting it happened. I thought Sammy actually had tons of talent and potential, but he never saw action. You need a guy with pace up top, Sammy could’ve brought that. Oh well. Can’t live in the past.

this team needs talent. i really dont care what position it comes from
Forward or CAM should be a priority, but i don’t see any area that we can ignore. As much as I like what we did in the offseason I don’t consider any position as locked in, other than gk. If we have a chance to get a very good player, then we need to get them.
Boswell has had his share of our trademark “silly mistakes” over the last couple of years. Taylor could be fighting a nagging injury all year. If they have to compete for a starting spot with a new player, so be it. Stacked at wing? We have an aging Brad Davis, an unproven Guy coming off a major injury, a Guy in Danny Cruz (who you can’t help but like becauase of his energy and potential ) who has been too inconsistent, and a Guy in Ashe who is probably better off the bench. I don’t see any reason we should refrain from adding talent outside…if it’s the right player.
I like our roster and think it has the potenial to grow into a pretty good team. Potential doesn’t always materialize though so that shouldn’t stop us from adding talent no matter where they play. Just make sure it’s the right player. Someone who wants to be here and is hungry. Not some washed out former star who’s heart is not in it.

Yeah but my problem is bringing in a winger DP is you end up stunting the growth of your younger wingers
Clark is more than capable to take over RM and allow Ashe to come off the bench. Davis is quality, period. Your arguments kind of counter themselves in saying we should improve this year, but then you make the remark about an aging Brad Davis.
Yes, Davis is old (and yes I pointed it out, too), but he’s also a proven commodity as much as anyone in the MLS can be. What we need, and you’ve nailed it, is a CAM or F. If we bring in a Winger, we’re not going to help ourselves much.
It’s like in football (and I know you know football senor papa), if you have a quality older running back who has some miles, certainly, but has proven he still has it, and you have a young gunner who has proven he has tons of talent, maybe makes some mistakes but you know given time can improve on those, and then you go out and get another young back who really only brings a minimal boost to what you already had in your other young gunner. Your time and efforts would be better spent elsewhere.
Yes, get me a CAM and get me a F. I would honestly prefer the speedy F who can finish right now, and then grab the creative CAM who can make things happen in the summer transfer window. That’s the order I think we need to go.

I disagree
Right now I think our forwards are sufficient to get to playoffs and not a dire essential to upgrade. What does concern me is central midfield.
We don’t have any creativity (DeRo) there, nor do we have anyone who just has a supreme understanding of the game (Holden). We have two players that are good at defending and tackling. One of which thinks he is a great attacker (which he may be, at a different position).
I am one to think that games are won and lost in the midfield, and traditionally we are a good example of that. We’ve never really had a prolific top line. In fact I’d be a little worried if you haven’t heard anyone refer to us a “forward carousel”. Due to the way we play our game, our midfield is the most important. Not only do we need fast wingers to get up and down the field fast enough and whip in a good cross, but as seen last season we need somebody to occupy some attention from the defense so our wingers can get the cross in. Holden did this perfectly because he was able to draw defenders and be the link between both sides of the field. He always knew where he was needed, and at times made that darting run in the box that was… successful.
It’s no coincidence that I think 2009 was our best team to date, nor is it a coincidence that they should have gone to MLS Cup. We should be looking for players similar to Holden in attacking midfield that have a great understanding of the game. That is essential.

I agree with a central midfielder...
Just not another damned winger.
