Dallas ads

I think this ad campaign is silly. Having lived in both Dallas and Houston, I have no love for Dallas and think Houston is better on almost every front. But this ad campaign is just a silly attempt to stir up feelings about a rivalry that isn’t a rivalry. You can’t make a rivalry by taunting someone. It’s second class. There is no rivalry. One day there may be. I would say the closest the Dynamo have come to having a rivalry was when they played Pachuca several times fairly close together.

I disagree

Perhaps it’s that you’ve lived in Dallas, but a true rivalry is brought about a dislike or hatred of one city/team/fan base for another. Kind of like the Jets and the Pats. It takes time to cultivate a decent rivalry, but MLS needs rivalries to help fuel it’s already passionate fanbase to show their love and support even more for their teams. One way to do that is to fabricate and fuel the fire in the players, and whether we agree or not, it’s succeeding.

Say what you will, but I’ve heard more talk about the Dynamo and FC Dallas game than I have the NYRB game. And Red Bulls are in our division whereas FCD aren’t.

From a marketing standpoint it's definitely doing it's job

It’s getting people around Houston who couldn’t tell you the first thing about the Dynamo to take notice…or at least become aware of the MLS.

I get Eugenio’s point about trying to force something that’s just not there, so I do think they have to worry about not taking it too far. I would think that it might motivate the Dallas fans a little. So far it’s been pretty good natured campaign that has been good for a laugh that has got the team and the league some national attention.

The more successful FCD becomes, the more the rivalry will grow. Up until last season, Houston regularly beat up on FCD, but that’s started to change. I think Houston fans will focus more on Dallas if they continue to be a strong team in the league and get results against Houston…hopefully only occasionally.

That stupid cannon is forcing the rivalry, trash talking like this is fun and will do more to stir the pot.

I wouldn't be suprised if...

that billboard in Dallas was co-sponsored in some way by FC Dallas. They need more help filling up Pizza Hut Park than we do.

I would be surprised if it wasn't

I always assumed this was coordinated with FCD and the league office.
