Huh...
From the article it seems like both Riordan and the Dynamo are starting to get very serious…it just seemed that before it was just a consideration in passing for Riordan and for Houston, something that didn’t work out at the wrong time. But considering that we upped the offer and he is now apparently very seriously considering it, does that mean that perhaps the writing would be on the wall for Weaver? He may not be traded but I definitely see him going to the bench. If we somehow sign Riordan we’d have Bruin, Ching (who I think will retire in another year or perhaps 2), Weaver, Koke and Riordan. I think Koke will begin to become even more effective as the season goes on and he gets more minutes, and Bruin is the future so I don’t see his time being given to Weaver…and Riordan is a very serious quality striker. Say what you will about the SPL but 3rd-best striker in history is nothing to sniff at, especially for a guy that is Koke’s age.
Also, its VERY encouraging if the execs went to see the stadium configuration and experience in the German leagues. They’re very fan and supporter-oriented so if they take away ideas from that we can only benefit from it. Have I mentioned how much I love our FO??
Weaver has played well enough to have some value on the market. If no plausible offers are on the table, I say keep him as he’s worth more than Garey. Garey might get us a little allocation money or a low round pick in one of MLS offeseason every other minute drafts (feels like Vegas, with the substance of cotton candy).
Riordan would be a good signing though don’t we have enough tall, physical target forwards?
Another question- should Koke play CAM (sacrilegious?)?
Last year, I was not so cuddly about the FO.

Fair enough, I could see us holding on to him (Weaver) to see if we could get a good deal for him.
Though yes, it makes me wonder why we’d be attempting to corner the market on tall, physical forwards (hereafter referred to as TPF)…mind you, Riordan would be a different style of TPF but nevertheless still a TPF.
I don’t think its sacrilege at all to propose Koke as CAM…it may not be exactly what he (Koke) had in mind, but given our roster I think its where he could have the greatest impact. We know he’s a great striker and can score, but he is most effective creating chances for others and basically giving the defense fits. I’m not sure what conversations DK has had with him in regards to where he fits and his own idea of where he fits (more striker rather than CAM or vice versa), but I think given what he’s seen so far I imagine he knows that as well. The more he’s played there the more comfortable and effective he can become.
And amazing what time will do…I wasn’t too keen on them the past couple of seasons (felt that we hadn’t made moves to improve our team) but they got their act together and it looks like we’re making moves and staying active.
I think IF this is serious, and not just some silly season rumors then Koke to CAM would have to be a possibility
I don’t think they would go after another striker if they didn’t at least see Koke as a possibility at CAM. Maybe they don’t see any realistic options at CAM being available. I don’t think they would hesitate to use Bruin off the bench, but I also think they want him to continue to get plenty of chances to play a significant role. I don’t think there’s any chance of Dom running out anything other than a 4-4-2. I think Koke would be great as a play maker in that role….but I do worry about him putting in the kind of defensive effort that Dom requires. /stream of consciousness over
Riordin has interest from other clubs too, so this might be the same old “I’ll go play in MLS” trick to try and increase his value that we have seen plenty of before. I know the Dynamo had legitimate interest in him before, but for some reason I just don’t see this being the direction they are heading right now. That’s nothing more than a feeling though.

Sadly its tough to tell what category this falls in to right now. I know a couple of weeks ago we first heard the rumor (which at that point was already a couple of weeks old before even being reported) and then nothing, as the SPL season was winding down and we were settling in with Koke. But now reading it again and Riordan’s reaction, along with the note that it is a significantly better offer than the previous one, it at least makes me lean towards it being true. Mind you, I’m sure Riordan’s agent is embellishing the “tone” of the Dynamo’s pursuit (eg, “…Houston is seriously pursuing him and a significant deal could be inked soon…”) to drive up value and perhaps spark a fire in other clubs pursuing him but I don’t think its unrealistic to think he could be tired of playing in the SPL and could come here. I guess we’ll see in the next week or so what happens. I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to his signing s it gives us more exciting options up front.
Now about that defense…
I think I'm leaning towards this coming from his agent as much as the dynamo front office
It just feels that way to me. I’m sure there has been some contact with the Dynamo, but I just can’t help but think this is more smoke than fire.
