Also, I missed the “game” last night. How many of the four were against Tally Hall?

I'd answer this...

but the stats for the game are all screwed up on MLSSoccer.com. According to the league’s official website, Mondragon gave up two goals, playing 45 minutes. Hall gave up no goals in 38 minutes and nobody was in goal for the final 7 minutes of the game…

I believe Hall gave up two goals.

Think it was 2

Nothing he could really do on either. Cameron got knocked off the ball by Berbitov and Tally was one on one and got chipped. Hit the bar but he easily finished. Can’t remember the second

So there goes our Discovery claim

Now onto Plan B, C, D, E, F and so on…

I hope these exist for the mysterious “20 players” in our gun sights…

Quick Spanglish Translation

Short form, transla5tion of Garcia article: we aren’t loaning, only selling. One posted response stated there’s no way he’s gonna get a European offer @ 27 yrs old.

Dynamo responded by submitting a new (improved?) loan offer.

I wonder

if, like Costly, they’re wanting DP-level salary. Silly rabbits.

Actually, I’m sure there are teams out there who would gladly pony up for that…and honestly, if we were set at CAM (and obviously in better form) then yeah, maybe we commit to that…but its more on Olimpia. Yeah, it’d be great to have him but hopefully the FO sticks to their guns and says here’s our fair offer and if you don’t want it, good luck

August 15th coming fast!

What are the F.O. going to do now? We have NOBODY now and the team is still horrible. Did they not see the Copa America? Do they have any back-up plans? There’s plenty of players in South American that can fit the bill and still nothing!? C’mon F.O. do something before the transfer window closes! VERY frustrating now!

Hopefully

They’re a bit more astute than that. As we’ve seen, there are plenty of options that could help us, most importantly at CAM and then at either winger or forward. I realize its a tough fit to find someone quality who fits the bill at the right price but it can be done. I’m at least encouraged that we’ve been seriously in the mix for Costly & Garcia (though neither really solve our problems) but didn’t want to sign on a deal that was bad for us. For me if we don’t start hearing serious whispers by next Friday that relate to an attacking midfielder then we should be a bit more anxious. I’m assuming we’re going to try and fly under the radar so as to not draw attention to what we’re doing. Now, if the deadline comes and goes and we have heard nothing (even after-the-fact rumors) then yes, its time to grab torches & pitchforks :)

I'm kinda honestly debating firing off an email to somebody at the Dynamo FO to throw the names others came up with

For “follow-up reviews by professional scouts, coaches, etc”. Somehow, I don’t think I’d get a “we hate you” response at this point.

Could it hurt?

I’m just saying…maybe they’ve already done the research on some of these guys, maybe they haven’t. Maybe it goes straight into the bin, maybe someone takes it and goes with it. I mean look, I’d hope that with MLS’ adoption of local blogs for teams that they understand that these sites aren’t run (entirely) by guys in the basements yelling at their moms for some meatloaf. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

/mmm…meatloaf

Michael...play

You two care to gather that list from before? I’ll fire it off tonight.

Doubt it would change much

but I wouldn’t be surprised if you got a response from someone. Canetti responded to one of my emails last year. Pretty impressed.

Hmm

Well its cool they at least responded…like you said, it probably does nothing but its the thought I suppose. :)

Looks like negotiations have broken down, other thoughts

Wouldn’t it be uber kewl if we stole Joel Campbell from out from under the Gunners noses?

No wait, that would cost $$$, wouldn’t it?

We seem to look for bargains and transfer fees in the range of how much frequent flier miles our players can donate.

Not a healthy transfer policy, im my view.

I understand some of the hesitations- the failure (and hefty payment to) El Porko Landin, Koke, other average signings, and the frustration from guaranteed contracts to Boz and Freeman- players we can’t seem to unload…

Since the season has tanked or even if we get 6 pts, for wat grand purpose- I say we start trading NOW. If $$$ is the problem, let’s get rid of some of the problem, NOW when the market is good.

Opare is injured? Can we cut a deal where we keep some of Boz’s salary this yr, but they get him 100% next? Made a deal that fits other teams caps? Toronto, Vancouver, San Joes all need CB’s. Who else?

Trading in the offseason diminished value, especially for players who aren’t starting. Caesar used to seek out smoke in Rome, finding houses on fire, where he would begin to make offers for the property. As it burned, he’d lower his offers accordingly.
The Quakes are in a similar situation. If they don’t wanna play, so be it. But we need to make it attractive, even if it means eating large %’s of the salary this yr.

OR I’d like to see us play Cameron and Boz toether in the back. Just to see how fast we can get the ball into midfield. This would greatly free up passing lanes as teams could no longer jam us and now our flank play becomes so much more dangerous. The math is pretty simple. Line up 15 or so players in a half and see how crowded it is (you can do this literally using coke cans or bottles on your desk). Now, with two quick passing CB’s who can hit the transition link man near the bottrom edge of center circle, spread your bottles across field.

Look @ all the space open up!

Sometimes change doesn’t have to be that drastic. Think of what we’d have if we kept Wondo and made him a withdrawn forward, a la Quakes. Dynamic changes and now we have a valuable use for someone who had little value. Can Clark play centrally to any effect? He obviously can’t make cuts at high speed post-op. But he does have game changing influence and he’s one of our most composed players in the final third. Martek says he’s not sure Clark has the vision for CAM and I wonder as well. But it’s worth a shot in a few scrimmages (or perhaps this has been tried unsuccessfully already).

Hmmmm

tick, tock goes ze transfer klock

With Toronto getting Robinson, we missed another opportunity. KC CB Aurelien Collin is out- perhaps another opportunity?

Wow

Whatever you had this morning I want it too. You’ve got some inspired posts this morning my friend.

But to your points you’e exactly right: look, the chances of us finding our “Superman” DP signing and righting the ship to playoff shores is looking less and less likely. And considering how we have to face Seattle this weekend, well, our chances aren’t looking any better. So let’s start preparing for next year.

PT, I wonder if sometimes we’re connected telepathically (or we have the same dealer. Could go either way). I was looking around at some MLS targets and saw some players that, while currently injured, would possibly be a steal to get, and for precisely the reason you state. It seems crazy to gamble on someone injured (either they’re injury-prone or could become more injury-prone), but you’re also taking a chance on someone and typically they like to reward that faith. Also, you get them for pennies on the dollar (or at least 50 cents on the dollar) and you take someone off the other team’s roster and we could give them someone healthy and roster-ready. It’s a risk, yes, but at some point we have to start finding those opportunities and taking chances on them. The Carr signing is a good example: coming back from concussion injury is risky, but the upside is getting a pacey forward who can help with the attack, and we got that for trading someone who had pace but the touch of a cinder block.

HAD the same dealer.

No mas for 21 yrs. But left me with a brain like Jack Sparrow’s.

We just have to connect the dots and starting working the phones
