Dynamo Stadium Going Green
Dynamo Press Release
Dynamo stadium registered for LEED credits
New venue will be built for environmental responsibility
The Houston Dynamo's new downtown stadium has taken its first step toward being an environmentally sustainable venue after it was registered with the United States Green Building Council for certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system.
The project has been registered by architect Populous, project manager ICON Venue Group, and builder Manhattan Construction Company and will be evaluated for LEED credits upon completion of the venue. LEED ratings are based on a point system that measure the building's impact on the environment.
Among the notable green elements in the Dynamo's new stadium are:
- During construction, the Dynamo will divert construction and demolition debris to be recycled or salvaged rather than being placed in landfills or incinerated.
- The new stadium will use water-efficient fixtures within the building to reduce the burden on the municipal water supply and wastewater systems.
- The Dynamo and jersey partner Greenstar Recycling will provide easily accessible areas for recycling collection and storage, thereby reducing waste that goes to landfills.
- The Dynamo will use post-consumer and pre-consumer products and materials to reduce the impact resulting from the extraction and processing of virgin material.
- Most products and materials used in construction will have been extracted, harvested, recovered, and/or manufactured within 500 miles of the project site.
- Many products and materials used in construction will reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that may be irritating or harmful to the well-being of installers and building occupants.

Nice
the place I work is LEED certified, which is simply to say it will feel just like any other stadium (I know our concern before moving to this building is would it have all the amenities we’re used to, etc). Good on them, and its a nice feather in the cap for all involved. So lets hurry up and build it and get in there!
Three and a half years ago, back on me auld site, I wrote about how great it would be if Dynamo were to do something like this, especially since it was then (Feb. 2008) that the Charleston Battery announced that Blackbaud Stadium was going solar.
Now of course, Dynamo Park will not be going solar, but the LEED certification is probably the next best thing. So big plusses all around to everyone.

Solar would be cool, but at least they are making positive environmental strides in other ways.
Just think, if Dominic Oduro were still with the Dynamo we could power the stadium via wind power from all the breezes created by him whiffing on shots. HEY O.

Or the waves of hot air generated by Oduro describing- in detail- EVERY ONE OF THOSE 15 GOALS HE WILL SCORE FOR THE DYNAMO THIS SEASON.
To be fair to him
He is thriving with Chicago now and has more goals than any Dynamo player.
True
But looking @ Chicago’s record, I’d use another word than thriving. He’s having a good season and his stats are waaaaay up. Yet is he a starter for a nonbasement team or even a playoff team?
Jury’s out, though your point is quite valid. However, he did publicly state he was going to score 15 goals for us this season.
@ least it's not as bad as...
Víctor Estupiñán’s rookie preseason prediction about scoring 25-30 goals for the Goats.
How’s that goose egg looking, El Estupido?
Well
the thing is he was given plenty of chances….both on the pitch and with the organization (twice, in fact) and he was more speed than scoring: both creator and squanderer of chances. After a while you need consistent results and he couldn’t do that for us. I wish more than anything he could’ve figured it out for us and perhaps he’s done that with Chicago, but yeah he’s gonna get clowned on here, sorry Gribbsy. :)
When MyDynamo was still up, (I can’t remember who made the thread) someone asked what you would like to see in the new stadium. I mainly pointed out going green and environmentally friendly. Solar panels and all. Well…looks like there won’t be using panels now, but this is a great start and setting an example for the rest of the league to help the environment. Hopefully other teams who have their own stadium follow along and become environmentally friendly and Greenstar Recycling will one day become a league-wide sponsor.
