Game Thread: Dynamo at Union (2011 - Match 23)
Houston Dynamo (6-7-9, 27 pts.) at Philadelphia (8-5-8, 32 pts.)
PPL Park - Chester, PA - 6:00 pm
REFEREE: Terry Vaughn - MLS Career: 149 games; FC/gm: 28.4; Y/gm: 3.8; R: 48; pens: 49
INJURY REPORT:
OUT: FW Will Bruin (L knee surgery); MF Danny Cruz (R quad strain); QUESTIONABLE: FW Calen Carr (concussion)
It's a testament to the struggles on the Eastern Conference that despite Houston's struggles this season, a win today in Chester, PA could move the Dynamo within four points on the top spot in the conference table. Last week's resounding victory over Seattle has given the side confidence and the midweek acquisition of Honduran forward Carlos Costly, who will be available today, has finally brought the club a much needed offensive reinforcement.
Still, the Dynamo have yet to win on the road in 2011 and PPL Park is not an easy place to try to shed that undesirable label. Houston will need another solid defensive performance and a big game from captain Brian Ching who played like a man possessed (in a positive sense) against the Sounders.

im not sure
sorry about that, i just have basic cable
Then you couldn't have watched it
The game was televised on 11.2 a channel for TVs with digital converter boxes. Alternatively you could watch it on comcast sports network. I have the same problem which is why I hate the Dynamo’s current TV deal. Hopefully the new stadium will help a bit in that respect.

I have a digital tv antenna for my room right now
So even though we have Uverse I still get to see the games NOT on FSC. I do suspect the Dynamo will eventually get on a better TV Deal for more local coverage of the games.

different team
the Dynamo are playing very differently from last week. They have most of the possession but nothing has happened
this reminds me
of every other game (minus Seattle last week) this year
It's you
He’s a big guy and most of his fouls aren’t intentional. He also gets the brute end of calls because of his size and physical presence. That elbow to the head wasn’t intentional he just turned to face the ball, but I can see how people think he’s dirty.
we just got lucky
union hit the post. Cameron scores on the next play!!!!!!
now
do we park the bus or try and get another?
So far Carlos Costly seems to be another dud so far. Yea I know first game, first minutes, but I do not think he has even touched the ball and has made several fouls.
He’s played 30 minutes and had one training session with the team…give him a little more time.

Yo si le voy, le voy al naranja!
I understand that, but I have just about lost my faith in the FO on getting foreign talent for this team. So many of the recent crop of foreign talent has been duds for this team.
That's not the problem
Did you notice how the midfield was still lacking creativity? THAT’S what we need to improve. Costly is step 1 in the process but step 2 is underway. If we get a creative CAM then you will see more of the forwards…which means more goals. Get a solid midfield and then our strikers have a chance to have the ball more
Calm down
Costly is giving more effort than Koke though. Koke really never fought for the ball…just waited for it. I’m Costly some slack because he hasn’t played in a while and this is just the first game. Anyways he has showed more than former forward fails.
As I said, I understand he has not really had the time. As I just posted above (right after you posted this) I have more or less lost my faith in the FO after so many recent player signings that have failed miserably for the Dynamo. So not seeing him get a touch on the ball for so long, makes me fear we got another dud (though I will met he was not given much opportunity to do so either.)
