Uh

we targeted him as a CAM, right? I know it all says he’s a skilled midfielder, plays different positions and adds depth but when you look at the player profile on the Dynamo page it says he’s skilled and hard tackler. And while those are good qualities to have in a midfielder, it just doesn’t seem like we’re promoting him as CAM, just simply another midfielder in the mix. I hope that’s simply understatement on the part of the FO and perhaps hyperventilation on my part, but we need a CAM. Not simply another cog that can be DM or RM or LM but someone who will be focused soley on the CAM spot. I also realize Camargo played different spots in the midfield back in Brazil but truly hope it was his skill and touch that had Dom envisioning him as our CAM.

I’ll shut up now and be patient.

Other than that, very happy with the signing!! Get his papers and get him in practice

Quick thoughts

I have never seen Camargo play. I only know that Kinnear likes him, so until I see him play, I reserve judgment. Still, it all looks nice from here.

Did I mention how much I hate the preponderance of international friendlies? If Costly gets hurt playing for Honduras against Venezuela Wednesday night, I am going to be royally pissed. Really, there could be tears.

Cameron’s goal was nice, but my worry is that this is going to be used as an excuse to keep him at CAM. Talk about subtraction by addition.

HRH is a media natural.

On the Times thing, I have never thought that a full women’s league will catch on here in the States in any sport. Instead of a full round-robin league, why don’t they just play a tournament, with extended group stage and then a knockout round? There is a market, I think, just not a very strong one. Of course, I would dearly love to be wrong about this.

Klinsi wants the players to take charge? I see both good and bad things here. I don’t know what to think about Klinsi just yet. We’ll see how well he brings up youth players and infuses the youth scheme in the US. As far as taking charge? Well, that’s always a balance between inmates running an asylum and a creatively stifling environment isn’t it?

Et tu, Klin-say

What should be very interesting are those Klin-say surrounds himself with. For a guy rumored not to too tactically adept, to use Martin Vasquez AGAIN as his right hand man, after player whisperings that Vasquez didn’t command the players respect @ Bayern, you just gotta wonder…

We’ll see how much “fresh air” there is in the next year or so…

Good luck to Bradley in the Egypt job hunt. Would love to see US managers get overseas international experience.

Agreed about Camargo

Careful atention should be paid to how Camargo shapes up. Whether it’s Dom, the FO, a secret scout, our foreign scouting appraisal “eye” needs some work. Other teams have technical directors doing this stuff. Maybe that’s a good idea?

Even if Costly doesn’t shine, he comes with pedigree, we’ve seen what he can do. Camargo is a faith in Dom thing. Jury’s out.

Next year

I’m really hoping with the new stadium we see those kinds of changes implemented…if its plainly obvious to us that we need some type of technical director then surely the FO knows this. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that with the amateur park, new stadium and all happening that they’re waiting for the unveiling to start with more changes.

We need to be thinking about not just our talent now but our talent pipeline 2 years ahead of the present

Yeah

the whole “players in charge” to me is always a double-edged sword and a pre-emptive ploy, in my opinion. Perhaps that the cynic in me but its a great idea to say “I want players more involved and more on-the-field generals”, which can be a great way of shielding one from criticism about tactics and the like. “Well, I trusted the players and gave them a chance but they didn’t take advantage”. Again, that’s Cynical Michael talking

Optimistic Michael says its good to get more player feedback and have them manage themselves more off the pitch and in the dressing room and will more quickly respond to commands on the pitch.

We’ll see which one was right. Either way, though, I’ve got issues

Sick

The thing I am liking about this vid, Ginge, is that so much of it is not Camargo scoring goals, but passing and creating, even getting back in defense. That is nice to see.

EXACTLY

I was starting to type that in my comment that the encouraging part is that he had more of a defensive responsibility and that’s going to be critical to us…eventually we can transition to use him more of a CAM but right now playing him more as a deep-lying playmaker is best for him and us because he still has defensive responsibilities (and skills) but clearly can pass and has a good touch.

by Michael_D on Aug 9, 2011 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Encouraging

I mean I know it skews to his role as DM, but DM in South America and Brazil is a slightly different role here. But its good to see he’s got a very nice touch and sweet passing. Hopefully he can use that time as DM to link up w Moffat and start the attack wide or pass through to Costly or Ching. He strikes me as being used here as a more deep-lying playmaker rather than a pure attacking mid who will probably start around the circle and maybe venture to the edge of the box. Given time he might move more towards CAM but I think it’d be fair to see him as a DLP because that seems well within his wheelhouse.

Thanks

this helped me stop hyperventilating :)

Not a DM

I do not see him as a DM in MLS unless he shows he can play far more physically. There is so much space to move in the Brazilian game, space on defense he won’t get here, where there is far more thuggery.

Bingo

How Camargo adjust to the thuggery in MLS will be key. The biggest drag on this league is the players who can’t actually challenge talented play makers so they just crash in to them.

Don't scare me

The last thing we need is for Camargo to try and ‘meg someone only for them to go hard in to him and injure him. But sadly, you’re right :(

by Michael_D on Aug 9, 2011 12:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Volante

Is the appropriate term because its not a DM that we are accustomed to in MLS. As you astutely note, in the Brazilian game they are given more license with space and the Camargo reel shows that he can handle himself defensively but more importantly knows what to do with space and has a nice touch and very nice passing. I can see him playing very well with Moffat and could almost see Ching being withdrawn as a deep forward (linking with Camargo and the wings) with Costly more up top

So who’s gonna lose their mind when Camargo arrives he’s playing with Cameron still in the midfield? Just wait, it’ll happen…I’m calling it now.

I'm sorry

I actually cursed at you when I read that…and only because it’s a terrifying reality.

Please, please, please (in my best and most annoying Morrissey voice) let me get what I want.

Can we start some sort of Twitter hashtag or something to campaign for the above?? Cameron to CB…For the love of God, PLEASE get him out of midfield !!!! #CamerontoCB

Hey

I’m down with that…seriously, Cam needs to move back to CB. Experiment over, he was a great sport about it but lets get back to business and get his USMNT career back on track as well as solidifying the defense.
