That field looks like crap
We look much slower, balls on the ground are slower, chunks of sod are flying and causing problems. Just terrible conditions…that and the ref’s no calls are hurting us more than anything.
Field will be better next season, it never got rooted properly and their condensed home schedule has really been hard on it.

I heard there were a number of concerts that tore up the field as well
Still…KC is used to it and we clearly aren’t.
Dynamo just aren't a creative offensive team most of the time

in my opinion
Players shouldn’t bitch about the filed. They’ve played in dirt before so this should be nothing, deal with it!
to me it wasn't, it was a hard yellow, and a bit late
but he had already commited to a tackle, before he kicked it
What a dumbass play by costly

I would rather houston not make the playoffs with the way they are playing. They go to the playoffs and probably get blown out in the wild card game or the first round.

Reffing seems to be pretty good this match

ummm sorry to burst your bubble Dom
…but I think it’s too late to bring in Camargo

Dom knows the game has long been over. I would rather KC just continue to the thrashing at this point. Maybe having the team just get destroyed will send a message to Dom and the FO.

Team sucks, o well. We were spoiled when the original san jose team came over. Anyone who thought clearly about the team at the beginning of the season should have expected this considering the massive overhaul we had. The team probably needs another one.
If the team has the same problems next season we will finally have our answer to the question of “is Dom a good coach”. He is building this team and right now he is on a failing grade since he and the FO said this is a team that can win.

Telefutura
Watching on telefutura, seems as though the ref mercy ruled the dynamo and called the game in the 89th minute

I'm seriously tired of the "this season is over" attitude
Love your team, thick and thin. The ref sucks, and the field really sucks. You can tell it is having a direct impact on their game. Playing a man down and you get a crappy performance all the way around. But to go ahead and throw in the towel and call for the heads of Dom and the FO is just stupid.
Remember:
*when we went down 1-0 it was obvious that it was due to a slow defense because of the turf.
*Not everyone had a poor performance…see some of Tally’s outstanding saves and Watson who dribbled through nearly the entire team
*Things fell apart after a red card..pretty understandable and compound that with the crappy field and you get two easy goals.
*The red card was a soft red card at best, you can tell that it wasn’t intentional and Costly was going for the ball. I understand the call, but to me is unreasonable considering the field conditions which really allowed the foul to happen (see how he slid in)
I know everyone is mad because a thrashing just happened but…try and be reasonable in your assessment of the game and team. At least try to understand why certain decisions were made by Dom and the importance of events that lead to goals conceded.
A better litmus test of whether or not we will be playoff bound (which we will be) will be against Columbus since their field won’t be in as poor condition. This KC team just beat LA here and Bruce Arena would not stop complaining about the field’s condition and I completely understand his position now.
...
I’m pretty sure I’m “FOREVER ORANGE”. I’m behind them good or bad. Just because some of us criticize the team doesn’t mean we will change allegiance to another team. If Watson doesn’t produce it doesn’t matter if he can dribble pass 100 players. Get an assist or a goal and then his dribbling counts. He’s not the player the Dynamo need
gah
I just don’t like the give up kind of attitude. It isn’t “backing” your team. Be frustrated, I am, but see why we lost that game. It wasn’t as much our players, our coach or FO as it was a poor ref and a very poor field that led to a below average performance.
Anyways, Watson had a great game..yeah he needed to get an assist or goal, but he was the only one that figured the field out and it is a team game.
How about what we have been preaching all year?
Geoff Cameron is by far one of our most versatile players and a damn good one at that…but he just is not creative enough to be a CAM. He would have helped TREMENDOUSLY in the back field today, and Camargo would have at least gotten a shot to see what he can do (He looked amazing last week paired with Moffat in the first half).
My criticitisms:
This is an attempt to see through any errors caused by the field and officiating
1) Possession which we normally control was not ours. That could be because of the field, because passes were poorly timed and the ball moved much slower on the ground, but overall it wasn’t there.
2) J. Taylor had a terrible game. On a few set piece situations for SKC he played a little too dirty for my taste.
3) I think that Cameron needs to move back to CB if Boswell and/or Hainault isn’t available. Our defense wasn’t as strong as it usually is and I can say most of that is due to slowness from the field, but the players and coach need to be held to some level of accountability or at least make proper adjustments in the future.
4) Costly’s foul that led to the card..he was hacked the entire game and didn’t get calls our way, so he got frustrated. He has to keep his cool.
I can think of more, but I just don’t want to think about the game. I want my memory of this game to be as muddy and shoddy as the pitch at KC.
Totally agree
With everything you said there. Its like you took the words out of my mouth because that’s the best breakdown I could come up with too. I guess the field did play a factor here against us and of course the ref
by RedAce on Sep 10, 2011 6:23 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
I think most of the problems can be chalked up to the field
Heavy legs, the ball looked dead, it was slick from the rain but still muddy to slow people down enough, and in my opinion was the biggest reason we looked so sloppy. Also I bet that’s why we subbed Ching out. Don’t want him nursing another injury because of a field.
So
in an incredibly rare moment I’m actually inclined to hang the majority of the blame for this game on Dom. I saw the line-up as the game was starting and my first thought was “wow, this is the starting XI you think can win a game for you on the road?”.
We knew 4 things coming in to this game:
-We’ve yet to win on the road
-Boz is suspended from the match
-Colin is suspended from the match
-the KC pitch is terrible
Knowing this, and also knowing that while our defense hasn’t been poor its definitely been suspect and prone to mistakes, particularly because of a lack of recovery speed (and of course, we have 3 games in 7 games to play) you opt for Taylor to pair up with Hainault and putting Cameron back in the middle? I’m not being negative but I knew there was no way we weren’t going to concede and I knew if we scored it was going to be incredibly lucky (almost happened) or a penalty. Also, KC has Zusi & Jeferson as creative input on the team and we threw out……Cameron? Watson? To be fair, Watson was playing like he wanted to make amends for the article but it also showed his limitations. Most egregious to me was that in a game where we desperately needed creativity to win in a hostile environment against a tough team we didn’t put out our most creative combination I’ve seen all season: Camargo + Moffat. If Dom didn’t think he was fit for the full 90, sub him out for Watson in the 70th minute. But that starting XI he trotted out to me was acquiescing to a defeat or draw before the game started.
The ref was, well, he wasn’t bad I was just puzzled at his calls. It was clear he was letting it become physical because alot of typical fouls were brushed aside with a “Play On”, so it seemed it was going to be a match of attrition. I’m not defending Costly but he didn’t go into that challenge with malice, he had already shown that type of closing a couple of times in the game, and while it was definitely a yellow I think it was an iffy red, particularly considering that the ref had been letting so much go up to that point. I mean, sure, I won’t argue with red but I think the context of the game is important.
Well, now our backs are against the wall. Again. So that means we’ll probably have a great game against Columbus and then piss-take against San Jose. If I don’t see Camargo start either Wednesday or Saturday then I know the jig is up. We can still squeak in but we’ve got to be on-form the rest of the way. I doubt that’s going to happen but I’m always hopeful.
PS – Take a look at the FanShot I posted a couple of days ago about our state of affairs last year this time, I think its relevant to what’s happening now. Read it and you’ll understand :)
I disagree about the lineup
When you win 5 in a row (or 4..forget if Moffat’s red was in there) with Cameron/Moffat and you go into a place that has an established home record and we have one of the worst road records, you don’t try to mix it up from what has been working lately. Obviously it didn’t end up being the best option, but I think there are a number of explanations for that..especially when you’re playing down a man on a piss poor pitch. It was the safest and smartest thing to do without taking a lot of risks. I think Ching probably shouldn’t have been in the game if they were going to take him out at halftime, but I think the rain may have just been too much so I understand that.
=P
But that's the problem
What did Einstein say about insanity? Again, we basically keep the same lineup that has never won on the road and take it into a place with a tough home record. To me that was part of the problem: at this point, they knew everything coming their way and knew they could match it and then some. We offered nothing that would trouble them, so it was almost assured a draw or loss. And, we’ve noted that we’ve a two part problem: we need to get good chances and then finish them (Costly had one but was unlucky) and need to shore up a shaky but not bad defense. So knowing we didn’t have Boz we should’ve locked down our D against an offense that had just recently put 2 on LAG, but instead we paired Hainault and Taylor? Hoo boy, when I saw that I knew we were going to get exposed on a run at some point. And they didn’t disappoint. Part of getting Costly & Camargo was to increase our chances of scoring (a risk), but instead we played it safe, too safe in my opinion, by only putting in Costly. More than anything that could be our Achilles the rest of the way: that to staunch the bleeding we’re going to get more conservative and decrease our chances or scoring, thus our chances of winning. Now Dom has to do what he apparently was trying to avoid: he has to take more risks.
I will say this: I was honestly concerned we forgot how to play in the rain…its been a while
/sad trombone
//hate this drought
Could have been a yellow but...
These types of studs up, unecessary follow through tackles are why we do not have Ferreira, Morales, or Zakuani for most of the season.
