Wow.
Per Ortiz in the Chron
Watson seems like a very gifted player, but quite simply I wonder if he has the mental capacity to contribute in Major League Soccer. It breaks my heart to write that; it really does. In 15 years of covering professional sports I don’t think I’ve ever questioned a guy’s intelligence in print, and trust me I covered a few dummies in Major League Baseball. bq.
Hats off to Ortiz (whom I’ve called out before for whose coverage had had the zest of cold oatmeal) for that zinger. Haven’t seen the foul, so passing judgement. @ least he’s calling it, and even Glen Davis is gettinga bit testy…
Double wow
I’ve actually sent him a few twits telling him that I’ve enjoyed reading his growth and comfort covering MLS and the Dynamo. I agree that at first the coverage was milquetoast, particularly with Bernardo Fallas but have seen steady weight in JdJO’s columns. He’s started asserting more of his insight and opinion into his coverage but this is probably his boldest, though its tough to argue. Watson is gifted but for every fleck of gold dust there is a giant lump of coal. I think we all want that to be wrong but over the course of the season the evidence seems to bear that out. I still don’t know if he’ll be back next season (doubtful) but I’m sure there’s another MLS team who thinks he’ll click with them
Also hoping
Bradley does well with Egypt. Respect for US Soccer will grow if Egypt achieves.
