Clark

unless Cruz steps up consistently enough to supplant him

Can we just agree

that Watson should be put on the reserve squad the rest of the season? He’s just not committed and is going to put in zero effort on the field, so why bother. Let Navas Cobo and Soto be on the 18 man roster for some games to let them get into the swing of things. Also, Cruz is back so that’s one more midfielder in the mix.

Yet

Someone voted him as our starting attacking mid- even after his comments to the Jamaican press.

by playtherapy on Sep 8, 2011 1:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Ok all

‘fess up as to who is the Jamaican supporter here. I mean seriously, its been getting more and more obvious as the season went on that Watson already had one foot out the door. I don’t think anyone doubts he has quality and talent, but he just doesn’t care to exert effort. That makes half a player, and we can ill-afford that right now.

I WAS

NOT the one that voted for that lame midfielder lol. I don’t even think Watson deserves to wear that jersey. I don’t want him anywhere near the Dynamo…his attitude might make them lazy. Navas Cobo and Soto can replace him in the starting 18

Col. Mustard

I presume.

Don’t worry, like I said I wouldn’t doubt that in a couple of weeks he’ll be on the reserve squad and one of them (Cobo or Soto) will be in his place as a sub

by Michael_D on Sep 8, 2011 10:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe

we could see that in the next match or two…if I’m Dom, I’m weighing options here: do I put in a disgruntled, very, very very very poor man’s version of Carlos Tevez (Watson) who has MLS-caliber experience or go with younger players with only reserve experience but who have talent and a burning desire to play (as was evidenced against Monterrey)? I won’t be shocked if Watson is on the bench for Saturday (probably won’t get a sub, but you never know) and perhaps we might see Cobo or Soto in his place on the bench for the Columbus match. Though that would probably happen in the match back here next Saturday…despite the issues with Watson I’d be surprised to see Dom give sub minutes in an important match against a good opponent (SKC or COL) on the road to rookies. I’d be thrilled to see either one get sub minutes in the match against SJE. Just my take but since he’s already started working in Dixon I can see him start subbing in either Coto or Soto before the season is out

Plz explain:

The leap from Tevez to Watson in Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon. I’m just not seeing a poor or destitute or any smite of Tevez DNA in Watson.

Watson does have skills but they seem to be on the pre-dance instruction Napoleon Dynamite level- lots of “Liger” without much substance.

One difference- Tevez scores goals. Because he takes shots.

Part of the problem

is that you’re thinking 7 degrees. I’m thinking more of “measuring in astronomical units”. So he’s creative and a playmaker but is mercurial and difficult to please and not worth the hassle. Will likely play great for another team until he decides or invents another injustice; lather, rinse, repeat. Tevez, meet Watson; Watson, Tevez. It was the easiest analogue I could think of off the top of my head :)

Hey

just calling a spade a spade. Or a lazy-a$$ spade but still :)

Michael, your hatred of Carlos Tevez is a wonder to behold. :> I’m cracking up.

So

one of the things that has been a distinguishing feature in my life, personal and professional, is the ability to identify patterns. At work, it helps in creating project plans and is invaluable in identifying and mitigating risks. At home, basically the same. Follow the pattern: every 2-3 years he gets bored, complains about playing time or opportunities, lack of prosecutorial purview for the ICC, famine in Africa, etc. and once he gets a new contract with a team, all is well for the honeymoon season and by the end of the second season he’s already thinking divorce. See a pattern here?

Watson has the talent and I’m sure the next MLS team to get him will chuckle that Houston “let one get away”. And while they’re walking hand-in-hand with their new signing all a-flutter, he’ll already have eyes on that other team around the corner.

As for Tevez, there’s not hate so much as it is frustration: if you’re willing to rent his talent for a couple of years then bully for you. Just don’t think that, like so many doomed souls, you’re going to “change” the bad boy/bad girl and that they’re just “misunderstood”. They are who they are, you just fail to acknowledge that.

If you want hate

we can talk RSL-love and MLS officiating. Oh and throw in a sprinkling of EPL’s condescending, “my caravan is WAY better than yours” nose-turning towards MLS.

X File Question (cue muzak)- The Truth is Out There!

Is there a lone Watson gunman that has our fave Jamaica starting @ CAM and MR on the polling results or are there two gunmen both wanting Watson to start, but each wanting him at a different position?

As for the latter, the horror, the horror!

I'm hoping

it was the same thing you did where you accidentally clicked on the wrong one. I will say that depending on browser/speed/etc that the page will “jump” while its loading, so if you’ve clicked on something it may move. That’s all I got

My theory

is that the person who pressed “failed Jamaican” might be busting our balls

A piss-taker

hmm, someone’s trying to spice things up here? :)

by Michael_D on Sep 8, 2011 10:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Soooo

That’s why. I thought I had blue balls but it’s that Watson ball buster that’s making them ache. Foresight is…

Foreskinned? Forewarned???

Okay, fess up

4 votes for Watson on the right? Does this guy have several computers?

Watson 996 minutes, 0 goals, 3 assists
Computes to:
1 shot every 110 minutes (less than 1 shot a 90 minute game)
1 assist every 332 minutes or every 3.7 games
These stats are less than flattering for a player that seems to flatter, but little else. He looks cool and smooth on the ball but little….
ever…
happens….
positively….
I can understand his frustration, expressed publcly in the Jamaican press- Dom won’t let me go forward. Yet Watson often loses the ball when going forward, then does not track back to help the defense after his mistake. No, Micheal, Tevez is not like Watson. Try Denilson as DP for Dallas- the great juggler, who could do fancy tricks then backpass, or would lower his head like a gridiron fullback and charge into three defenders, only to be stripped by the first while the other two merely watched. The press statement, even if goaded by a snarky journalist, was very unprofessional for a player whose team is making a difficult playoff run and seemed a signal for Jamaican league teams to “get me out of here!”. Given that, I think we should accomodate that line of thinking.

Clark, 1213 minutes, 26 shots, 3 goals, 3 assists
Computes to:
A shot every 47 shots or roughly 1 a half
A goal every 404 minutes or roughly every 4.5 games
An assist every 404 minutes or roughly every 4.5 games
From what I’ve seen of Clark, he’s a guy you want touching the ball as often as possible when deep in enemy territory. His in the box composure is better than most of our forwards. If Clark could ever get his infamous sharp cut on the wing back- one of the many attributes that made him look ready for a USMNT cap presurgery, we’d be a different team entirely. All the same, when Ching isn’t scoring, Clark is definitely an option for goal production.

Cruz,, 864 minutes, 18 shots, 1 goal, 1 assist
Computes to:
A shot every 48 minutes, about 1 each half
A goal every 864 minutes, or 9.6 games
An assist every 864 minutes, or 9.6 games
His stats demonstrate what I see on the field, magnificent runs, then crosses that miss targets by far, shots off mark… When Cruz finds composure in the box, he’ll be awesome. If Clark can and will pass his cool savvy on to his younger sidekick, Danny will become an All Star.

BTW

Cameron on the right is intriguing- that’s where he got his initial breakthrough his rookie season, subbing for Mullan or Holden. Geoff played well there and seems to do better when his vision of the field is either limited (as a wing) or when there’s a lot of uncongested space (as a center back). The more defined and somewhat more restrictive the role, the better Cameron seems to do.

I think we’re all hoping that Dom cements Geoff in a position that plays for his already developed strengths…

by playtherapy on Sep 9, 2011 9:18 AM CDT reply actions

And that would be

CB. I remember fondly those wild and heady days of optimism where Cameron could be dropped into any position like some elite special forces team and do us proud…but those days are behind us. We need to shore up the defense and that’s where Cameron has made his name. I think the right side is sorted out between Clark & Cruz, with Dixon perhaps putting in some time there on occasion (he’s going to be our new utility midfielder). Soto or Cobo could also be on the right or left but we’ll see.

But to your first point that’s an intriguing observation that perhaps he does play better when his role is restricted.
