Dynamo get to skip preliminary round of ConcaChampions League
Other than the SuperDraft, there was some other news today. CONCACAF changed the format for the Champions League competition, eliminating the preliminary round. The four-year-old competition will remain a 24-club tournament, but instead of an initial knockout phase of 16 teams, all qualifiers will proceed to a main stage of eight, three-team groups, from which only the winners will advance to the quarterfinals. The competition will begin as previously planned during the week of July 31.

Goodie gumdrops
So like it said (if I remember correctly), instead of having to play 6 matches we’d only play 4, which is fine by me. I know between CCL and Open Cup that its usually reserved for second-teamers but still, the less we have to play this year the better. Though yes, its a great chance to mix up some youngsters with the usual XI. Hopefully we can see more DIXON as he continues his inevitable rise.
That plug aside, I’m really hoping we see much more of Dixon, Soto, Sarkodie and Deric and perhaps even Rolfe and Creavalle in some competitions. We got some yungins who can play, so let’s start breaking them in
Really great format changes and really good news for the Dynamo
This actually brings the total down from 8 games for the Dynamo because would of played the 6 group stage games but also 2 more in the preliminary round (i am assuming the dynamo would of won the home/away preliminary games)
Now, all i need is to see if i read the article correctly
The dynamo are in the second group of seeds but the article says every group will have either a Mexican or a US team of which there is 8 total matching the 8 groups of three teams, which means we will be seeded with one of these teams from the first group of seeds, “top qualified sides from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama”
so we can’t play a Mexican team unless we win our 3 team group…
Are you sure we're in the second group of seeds?
I would have thought that since we finished as MLS Cup runners-up, we would get the second MLS seed.

unless...
CCL decides to give the 2nd seed to the 7th best team in MLS…then yes, your Dynamos would get it.
How sweet
A troll from Barad Dur itself. I thought when Frodo destroyed the Ring that all plastic turf fields and their teams would get swallowed up.
Guess I was wrong.

Oh well, at least you have your Lamar Hunt US Open Cups to percolate some coffee in. If you look at them through the reflection of the Dynamo’s two MLS Cup trophies, they might look bigger and shinier.

i can’t seem to see any trophies in the reflection…mostly because the orangies haven’t won anything since 2007
but you are welcome to visit Seattle on March 23 to see our trophies, and another Sounders victory if you’d like
uh...
Because LA won the supporter’s shield and the MLS Cup don’t we get the MLS Cup spot?

I like the CCL
It gives us more international exposure across Latin American markets. It boosts notoriety and revenue. Who knows maybe some rising star sees us beating the lights out of his favorite childhood team and when his time comes around he wants to don an orange kit? Or more realistically we can sell and draw more to the Mexican/Central American markets. I wish we would take this competition more seriously and put out more 1st teamers for the matches.
Open Cup: as long as we don’t lose to any non-MLS side- meh.
For me
I’d like to think of the Open Cup as a place to troll for potential depth signings; there’s quality to be had in the NASL and considering that seems to be part of our model its just good to keep those channels open while you play the different teams
