New Dynaman Colin Rolfe speaks
This is from the website of the Arena Soccer League's Louisville Lightning, with whom Houston Dynamo first round pick Colin Rolfe has been training since the end of the NCAA season. It's nice to see this from Rolfe, simply because there are many people in this market who have never even heard of the guy, even though his college accomplishments at Louisville are impressive to say the least.I'm liking that facility there in the background. That turf floor could use some work though, as it looks almost exactly like this one. Knee-killers.
Still, I am thinking that this young man may just need some help with his interviews. Perhaps before he talks to the media again, any media at all, he should watch the following. (I apologize in advance for the salty language.)
Bull Durham, my vote for best sports movie of all time.

Sour
He seems bored, distracted, impatient, and like he just sucked on a lemon. You just got drafted by the ORANGE, son. WAKE UP!! Show a little excitement and pride.
That comes once he gets to spend time with guys like
Brad “MV” Davis, Geoff Cameron, Adam Moffat, Will Bruin, Corey Ashe…
Also, I like the thought of Bruin + Rolfe up top in a couple of seasons. Rolfe is not a target man, but he has the ability to break free of his man and he has a nose for goal. We’ll see if this translates to MLS from the college level, but I have a feeling it will.
I am also amply intrigued by Creavalle. He reminds me of the Ricardo Clark mold some, and could be a huge asset going forward not just for depth but as a main stay in a few seasons.

Also what the hell?
I take a day away from the internet (ok, it’s been exactly 32 hours), and DT.com goes all post-happy on me. Keep up the good work! Love coming to DT and seeing multiple articles and FanShots to read.

i dont like his attitude at all!
Wtf!? im pretty sure he wanted to get drafted by another team and not the Dynamo. C’mon the guy has talked with other teams but seemed like he could care less about the Dynamo. I loved when we drafted the Dancing Bear and Sarkodie. They were really happy and excited. I remember meeting Bruin at the HBU vs. Dynamo scrimage and he’s such an awesome guy! I don’t know but for right now i dont like this guy

I can understand your reaction
The boy seemed to clearly be wanting to do anything other than talk right then and there. He’s got some learning to do about being a pro. How I would love to be there if he brings an attitude like that onto the field around here. I think Eddie Robinson will come over from the Dynamo Academy fields with the sole goal of kicking his ass. Johnny Rocco will tell you how it’s going to be.
Oh well, it’s just a few minute interview and no one can be summed up in just a few minutes. The proof will be in the pudding.

He always acts like that, he just doesn't like interviews

He just doesn’t have a knack for public speaking.
Time with guys like Brad Davis and Geoff Cameron will cure what ails him

Rolfe's Big Fall
Rolfe’s Draft Day value has plummeted (watch out for falling rocks!) as he was the consensus #1 forward last yr. This year, he was less than flattering, except for inspired play in the NCAA playoffs.
Big things were expected at the Combine, a chance to prove the last season was merely a blemish on a good Cardinal career. Instead, against the best of the NCAA- he dropped even further.
Did Icarus smile as he fell? Time will tell whether his footy career can be righted. Dom def-fin-nite-ly will not put up with the attitude in the video. I wonder if the attitude has influenced the drop in play.
ok wow I really disagree strongly with this
This year, he was less than flattering, except for inspired play in the NCAA playoffs.
That is not at all true he got it done all season long. I know for a fact he dominated UCLA, a powerhouse team loaded with talent, in the first game of the season and scored a very technical finish against the Bruins in that match. Goal in game 2 against wake forest. He got injured earning a PK against powerhouse USF later on in the season which may have limited him in his last few games of the season but he turned on the juice in the ncaa tournament and consistently played well, not just in the Maryland game but also finding net against Bradley and coming within inches of scoring the go-ahead goal against UCLA.
10 assists from a forward that is insane at the collegiate level. Even elite forwards like Zakuani only had 7 assists his final season and Mattocks only had 4.
Win or lose, we'll always be there for you.

Yeah
I will reiterate the last line as well. Rolfe is capable of distribution to others, which is something few Forwards can do. His total goals were less this season, but his assists rose dramatically. What this means is he will be an asset up top as a guy who can hold AND finish, and pairing him with Will Bruin going forward will cause teams all kinds of trouble in and around the box.

Seems like some of us have mixed emotions for this guy

Young
I’ll give him the benefit of being young and as play pointed out (damn its good to see you again, good sir) he was a hot prospect last year and this year he was selected near the end of the first round. I’m sure its part emotion and being young and wearing your heart on your sleeve…but once he gets around proper pros who have been there and done that he’ll change his tune. Either that or he’ll be cleaning boots for the reserve squad all season
.
Along with jealousy there will be hating, I actually had a public speaking class with Colin in high school , he wasn’t meant to be a speaker get off his back. This interview will be completely forgotten about, as soon people figure out who he is, and what he is actually capable of on and off the field. Meanwhile good luck to you Colin set your goals high, n con grads on ur accomplishments thus far.
