The 2012 Houston Dynamo MLS Schedule Has Arrived
At last, it's here!
The 2012 Houston Dynamo schedule was released today, along with the rest of the league, so we can now begin preparing road trips and all the other particulars that fans need to do to properly ready themselves for the upcoming season. It's also a time for criticism and complaining about certain elements of the schedule, but it appears that other than some general distaste over the unbalanced schedule, the opinions are pretty positive.
I'm a big fan of the fact that no games will be played on FIFA international dates, unless the two teams mutually agree to switch to that date if no other scheduling option can be worked out. MLS has slowly been acknowledged the international calender more and more and it seems this season, they've finally done so to the fullest extent possible.
The only complaints from a Dynamo perspective? Seven matches played Sunday or on a weekday, which is due to the compressed time line with the stadium not being ready until May. Also, there's only one match against FC Dallas which kind of kills that rivalry a little bit. Not the end of the world though.
Some of the highlights include:
BBVA Compass Stadium Opening Day: Saturday, May 12, 3:30 p.m. vs. DC United
Lone Match vs. FC Dallas: Saturday, June 16 at BBVA Compass Stadium on NBC Sports Network
Jesse Marsch and Montreal come to town twice...he should get a warm reception.
Beckhamania comes to Houston (assuming he's not injured or suspended) on Saturday, May 26
One match on ESPN2, three matches on NBCSN, 4 matches on Galavision.
The complete 2012 schedule is after the jump.

Best thing
Other than the opening, is that the only game we have against the Frisco ISD Home XI is here and not at (enter name here) Park up there. I can hardly wait.

I approve
Oh dear oh dear, L’Impact will think they’re the USMNT in Nicaragua when they come down here. I look forward to this :)
You know...
…I’ve never hated Canadian (Canadien) teams before, just generally regarded them with antipathy. I’m kind of enjoying this. No matter how the Ching thing works out, those guys are expansion scum and we hate them.

^^This
a thousand times, this.
“…generally regarded them with antipathy…” is the best description of MLS Canadian teams, ever.
That is...
…when I regarded them at all.

Missed Opportunity
Why did they not schedule Montreal or Dallas as our home opener? Were they afraid we’d destroy the city?
Montreal would have been fun, but not Dallas. I don’t want those Southern Oklahomans having any chance of being able to say they beat the Dynamo in the first match at our new stadium. Besides, there might actually be some away support at the match with DC playing here.

Tell the Screaming Eagles...
Yeah, the new stadium is downtown. You can’t miss it. Over at the corner of Texas and Crawford. Big retracting roof.

Looking closely
Not liking the number of midweek games, especially that Saturday-Tuesday turnaround to open the stadium, and again in June/July.
Also, what’s with the two Tuesday games? Tuesday?
Four games in August and five in September. Isn’t early August when the ConcaChampions League group games are played? That is going to be some fixture congestion. Though I do see a hole in mid-October for another group stage game or two.
However, I really do like the season-ending four-game homestand. What a launching pad for the playoffs.

Just checked the Astros website...
Wondering about nights when both teams are scheduled and the parking hassles that would ensue. Turns out, the powers that be thought about this as well, which is a very good thing.
The only days they’re scheduled on the same day is Wed. June 20, when the Astros play a day game at 1:05 p.m. against the Royals, and Dynamo is at home at 8 p.m. vs. Toronto; and Sunday, Aug. 19, when the Astros play at 1:05 p.m. against the D-bags and Dynamo take on C-bus at 8 p.m.
This is not including home ConocChampions League games.
And of course, Dynamo play three home games in mid to late October, but I think we can all safely assume that the dis-Astros’ season will be over by then. #clinchlastbyMemorialDay

Though, how great would it be if....
…they could schedule these day-night deals against teams from the same city! Knowing the whole advanced math that goes into scheduling, that would be award-winning marketing!

Does that mean the Dynamo have a chance to be on FS Hou?
Always got mad that Astros had priority when fans rarely cared (mostly talking about last season).
While they won't be anything special this season
You won’t be able to hate on the Astros for long. Lunhow is a hell of a choice for GM, and has already begun the process of bringing the Astros Front Office into the 21st Century. The guy knows how to actually build a real farm system, and how to acquire players to allow for real trades without destroying said farm system.
So yes, please temper your locking up last by Memorial Day hashtag enthusiasm. They might not be nearly as bad as you think.
Here’s to at least 3 seasons of rebuilding from the ground up, though.

I’m working on a “Major” Dynamo related news of international significance. Will post soon.
No away game in Portland
I was gonna go to Portland this year to support the Dynamo, but I guess I’ll have to wait.
