Earlier this week, we discussed Houston's offensive struggles and whether Cam Weaver has earned a spot in the starting lineup. Saturday morning, Weaver added a brace to hand the Dynamo Reserve team the Central/Mountain division championship after a 2-1 win over Chicago Fire Reserves.
Weaver's two goals give him a total of 11 on the season, a total that ties Chris Wondolowski's Dynamo record in the 2006 Reserve league. With his performances as of late, the conversation about playing time with the first team will surely heat up.
Houston scored on a 5' penalty kick after Colin Clark was taken down in the box and in the 70' when Alex Dixon laid it off to Weaver for the winning goal. Victor Pineda scored the lone goal for Chicago in the 29' on an unassisted shot from 30 yards out.
This was the final game of the 2012 Dynamo Reserve schedule, giving them the first place title in the Central/Mountain division after finishing with 20 points (6-2-2). The win allowed the Dynamo to leapfrog FC Dallas who finished second in the standings with 19 points on the season.
