Preseason: Dynamo Defeat San Jacinto College 4-0
The Dynamo had another positive preseason match today, defeating San Jacinto College 4-0. Goals from Nathan Sturgis, Will Bruin, Adam Moffatt and trialist Jorge Escobar did the damage for Houston.
Houston Dynamo Press Release:
The Houston Dynamo continued their 2012 preseason with a 4-0 victory over San Jacinto College, Wednesday morning, at the Houston Amateur Sports Park. Nathan Sturgis scored a first-half goal and Jorge Escobar, Will Bruin and Adam Moffat followed with second-half strikes to break the game open.
Houston's starting lineup featured a collection of trialists along with Tyler Deric, Andre Hainault, Josue Soto and Sturgis. Soto and Hainault nearly combined for a goal in the 4th minute, but Hainault's header off a Soto corner kick sailed just wide of the goal. Minutes later, Sturgis rose above the pack on a Soto corner kick, but sent his header over the crossbar.
In the 17th minute, Soto sent a curling free kick from 25 yards out toward the upper corner of the net, but San Jacinto goalkeeper Matt Dishno dove to his left to knock it away. Soto came close minutes later when a hard shot from the right side of the penalty area skimmed the top of the crossbar.
Sturgis finally broke through in the 31st minute, redirecting a Soto corner kick off his chest and into the net to give the Dynamo the lead.
The Dynamo out-shot San Jacinto 12-1 in the first half with a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
At the start of the second half, Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear inserted more returning players into the lineup to mix in with a few trialists.
In the 55th minute Trinidadian trialist Darryl Roberts found space to the left of the goal and sent the ball across the goalmouth past Dishno to an open Jorge Escobar. The former Dynamo Academy midfielder made no mistake, firing the ball into the empty net to double Houston's advantage.
Less than a minute later, Sarkodie created space for himself on the right flank before delivering a cross to Bruin, who calmly buried the chance from 12 yards for a 3-0 lead.
In the 66th minute, Will Bruin got on the end of a Colin Clark corner kick but his header drilled off the post. The ball caromed back to Adam Moffat, who smashed home the rebound for a 4-0 lead.
The Dynamo will return to training tomorrow before taking on Houston Baptist University, Saturday morning, at the Houston Amateur Sports Park. Kickoff for the scrimmage is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Really liking
what Soto, Dixon and Escobar have been doing in these scrimmages. Soto, in particular has been a wee beast out there. I realize its pre-season and yes, first against the Academy kids and now San Jac but still, he’s putting himself out there and I’m loving it. At this rate I could see him starting in USOC or CCL games and being a sub in the regular season.
Roberts has also been very active and I like what he’s bringing as well as Sturgis.
Good start to the preseason :)
I'll say it because I know you want to
Dixon was great out there. JJdO tweeted many complimentary things about him.
Right now we need to ay down the ground rules: If Dixon scores more than five goals in 2012 (which would have better than any other 2011 Dynamo), we owe you a libation or two.

I didn’t want to say anything since I’m the resident Dixon-ologist but uh, yeah, he’s been pretty damn impressive out there. I mean, I really like the energy out there from Roberts, Sturgis and even Rolfe, but to me Dixon and Soto are standing out head and shoulders. They REALLY want to compete for minutes and at this pace they’re making a damn fine case for it.
And hey, I’ll take the libations any way I can get ‘em, but if its also because he’s getting minutes and goals all the better ;-)
/PS – Clark?? Apparently he’s feeling better because he was very active as well…which is encouraging, considering he’s our starting RM
What the hell?
I laud this kid’s talents in the frakkin preseason last year, and Michael gets credit for “discovering” him. I feel so cheated…by Dixon…my mancrush…

I know I know
credit where credit is due: you’re the Godfather of the Dixon Movement, I’m merely a zealous evangelist :)
Libations all around
Just say the name of a certain Rayo Vallecano player, and you too get credit for “discovering” Alex Dixon.

Not sure I agree
I thought his corners were flat and lacked any sort of pace. It’s got to come out of the sky there, like dropped from the TARDIS itself.

Well
I saw maybe two that were unimpressive, but his crosses from play or set-pieces were met by his teammates rather than opponents…I’d rather go back to video evidence to review since I watched this relatively late but alas, it’ll have to wait until after work (boooo work)
Are these scrimmages open for people to watch?
I would love to be able to go out to HASP to watch the guys train/play.
They are indeed
And, best of all, admission is free.
