Preseason: Weaver and Clark Shoot Dynamo Past Impact 2-0

Photo

The Dynamo continued their undefeated preseason (for what that's worth) with a 2-0 victory over the Montreal Impact. This was the first MLS competition Houston has faced this preseason and it's fitting it was against Brian Ching and Le Impact. Colin Clark and Cam Weaver both scored for the Dynamo.

Enjoy the official particulars from the Dynamo:

CARSON, CA (Wednesday, February 8, 2012) -- The Houston Dynamo posted their fourth consecutive preseason shutout, as they defeated Montreal Impact 2-0 Wednesday morning at The Home Depot Center, in Carson, Calif. Colin Clark and Cam Weaver scored the goals and Tally Hall made four saves in his first preseason appearance of 2012.

In a back-and-forth first half, neither team was able to control the run of play. Montreal nearly got on the board first in the 27th minute when Sanna Nyassi ran on to a ball played over the top of the Dynamo defense. The Gambian forward took a touch and fired the shot low, but Hall dove to his right to stop the shot.

Although Houston was able to get some pressure on the Montreal back line in the first half, they were unable to test goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts and the two teams finished the first 45 minutes scoreless. To begin the second half, the Dynamo subbed out half of their squad, including their entire back line.

The Dynamo broke through in the 67th minute, when Will Bruin received the ball in the Montreal penalty box. The second-year forward held off a defender before playing the ball to trialist Philip Aseweh. The supplemental draft pick from Liberty University moved the ball across the six-yard-box to midfielder Colin Clark who fired the ball into the empty net.

Houston doubled its lead in the 83rd minute off a cross from Warren Creavalle. The 2012 MLS SuperDraft pick raced past a Montreal defender and played the ball to Bruin in the box. Bruin dummied the ball to an open Cam Weaver who one-timed the ball past second-half goalkeeper Evan Bush.

The Dynamo will train tomorrow on the practice fields at The Home Depot Center before taking on LA Galaxy on Friday at 12:30 p.m. CT. Friday's match is open to the media but closed to the public.

I'm just pretending

that its a white v orange scrimmage, and Cap happens to be on the white team. Who are L’Impact?

Trialist I hope sticks and here's why

The Dynamo broke through in the 67th minute, when Will Bruin received the ball in the Montreal penalty box. The second-year forward held off a defender before playing the ball to trialist Philip Aseweh. The supplemental draft pick from Liberty University moved the ball across the six-yard-box to midfielder Colin Clark who fired the ball into the empty net.

That kind of ball movement IN the box…I dream of that day…

Good to see Weaver score

Also he scored within 2 minutes of his coming on. I think it’s his first preseason game back (could be wrong though about that). I want to see him earn that starting spot!

Exactly!

After going out late last season its good to see Weave back in action. I know I wasn’t very big on him last year because he’s rather unremarkable, but he’s a damn good workhorse who gives you solid play and either finds ways to score or creates chances for others.

Wow

again, I realize its pre-season but our trialists are making life tough for Dom. They are all active, good with the ball and ready to move it around into a better position. Between Arreola, Aseweh, Ownby and Creavalle I’m quite impressed.

An idea

At the low price these guys command, why not sign as many as we can and loan them out? Turn the San Antonio Scorpions and Austin AzTex into our farm teams. The benefits would be many.

Can we?

because if that arrangement is permissible I’d absolutely love that. I personally think almost every trialist we have could make the cut because the talent level is solid, but there simply aren’t enough spots. If we could keep them by signing & loaning everyone wins: they get starting minutes and as circumstances change, we can bring them back into the fold

Let's start by getting rid of the worst move in Franchise history

Yes, even worse than DP 1 and DP-lite. JeVaughn Watson MUST go. I would take ANY of these trialists AND their low low salaries in lieu of one JeVaughn Watson, his insane lack of production and extremely inflated salary.

In a heartbeat

I mean seriously, I’ll take a kid looking to impress and working on the cheap for a guy with a massive self-adulation without the talent (or consistent application of that talent) to back it up…and who wanted DP money. To me, the Watson situation isn’t worth wasting any more words. He is surplus and needs to be given his papers.

Shall we add his name to the drink game?

I say yes…
