Dynamo Vs. FAS, 2012 CONCACAF Champions League: Houston Hands Out a 4-0 Thumping

The Dynamo put their CCL fate in their own hands with a big win over FAS

The Dynamo took care of business tonight at home, easily defeating C.D. FAS 4-0 and setting up a likely winner takes the group match in late October against Olimpia. Giles Barnes opened his Dynamo account with a rocket goal and Bobby Boswell, Cam Weaver and Calen Carr got in on the fun as well.

Giles Barnes put the Dynamo ahead in the 21st minute with a rocket from 25 yards out. Replays showed it took a slight deflection off Brian Ching, but either way it beat the FAS keeper and the Dynamo had the lead. Bobby Boswell added a second late in the half, heading in a Colin Clark free kick. FAS's marking was horrific and I doubt Boswell has had that kind of space on a free kick in a long time.

Solid first half from the Dynamo overall as they were able to control the midfield and really limited FAS's chances on Tyler Deric. Other than the referee letting a lot go (bad officiating in CONCACAF? The hell you say!), it was what the Dynamo wanted. I'm sure Kinnear would have liked to have seen a more dominant performance from his side since FAS aren't very good, but a 2-0 lead at halftime works.

Cam Weaver wasted little time putting the Dynamo up 3-0, scoring on a rebound in the 49th minute. Calen Carr, who replaced Je-Vaughn Watson, scored a nice goal with a cheeky chip in the 79th minute to vent some of the built frustration from FAS's dirty tactics.

One note, Adam Moffat picked up a yellow card late and is now suspended for the Olimpia match due to card accumulation. Fortunately, Ricardo Clark will be able to slide in to the lineup. It still sucks since it was real BS card, but such is life in CONCACAF.

Alright, so here's where things stand.

The Dynamo now top their group with seven points. Olimpia is second with four, but they travel to FAS next week. Assuming they win, they'll tie the Dynamo and the match between the teams at BBVA Compass Stadium on October 23rd will essentially be a winner take all. Rather than give you a brain meltdown with tiebreaker scenarios just, I'm going to wait until after the Olimpia/FAS match to break things down. After all, if FAS pulls the upset, we all but win the group (as I said, it's complicated, let us wait until we know more).
