Injury Update: Eric Brunner has surgery on ankle, out eight weeks

They broke our Brunner! - Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Dynamo defender Eric Brunner had surgery on his injured ankle and is expected to be out for approximately eight weeks.

On Monday, April 7th, 2014 the Houston Dynamo announced via press release that defender Eric Brunner had surgery on his injured ankle. The injury was sustained in preseason against the Charleston Battery, and the surgery was to remove "loose bodies" from the affected area. The expected duration of recovery from this surgery and injury is roughly eight weeks.

Obviously, a surgery of this nature gives David Horst a massive boost as he has another eight weeks to prove he belongs as the starting center back opposite Jermaine Taylor. It will be interesting to see if Eric Brunner returns to a substitute role or as a potential starter alongside Horst should Taylor's current run of form not improve defensively.
