The Houston Dynamo will travel to Los Angeles to take on Chivas USA who currently sit 8th place in the Western Conference. The Dynamo are coming off a disappointing draw at home to bottom ranked Portland Timbers in a game that saw the return of Dynamo captain Brad Davis and Will Bruin finding a place on the score sheet. Chivas USA, like the Dynamo, have struggled since the opening weeks. After Chivas' opening win against the Chicago Fire, the team has yet to find 3 points.
Each team will be without a few players due to injuries or suspension. The Dynamo will be without Tony Cascio, who just had surgery done on a torn ACL, and defender Eric Brunner while the status of Ricardo Clark is still up in the air after he missed the last match with concussion symptoms. The good news is that Brad Davis went 80 minutes in the last match as well as news that Omar Cummings returned to practice and could be back as an option for the Orange.
Chivas USA will have to deal with the absence on their number 1 goalkeeper Dan Kennedy after he was given a straight red card for handling the ball outside of the penalty area in their last game.
Key Players to Watch:
For the Dynamo it has to be all eyes on a healthy Brad Davis who is looking to push his case for an opportunity to be included in the US Men's National team roster for the World Cup. He was very active against Portland notching another assist in his assist belt, something he probably has somewhere, and looked very confident. The Dynamo will need to go through him to find success on the offensive side of the ball.
On Chivas USA's end, the main threat to the Dynamo is Erick Torres. The forward is currently in 2nd place in the Golden Boot race with 6 goals, 2 goals behind league leader Clint Dempsey, and will not make things easy for the leaky Dynamo defense. Chivas USA can also utilize Mauro Rosales who has 3 assists going on the year.
Stat of the Day: 29
This is how many shots Giles Barnes has taken this year and we all know he is still seeking out his first goal of the year. To put that in context, it's one shot less than Clint Dempsey who is currently the Golden Boot leader. Expect for Barnes to finally put one of these away against a slow Chivas defense.
This is a game that both teams want to win. The Dynamo need to start performing up to their caliber of play and string together some wins, especially on the road, and Chivas are looking to do the exact same thing except at home. With both teams hungry this one has the potential to be a real shootout with each side capable of making quick runs towards goal. The advantage the Dynamo have in this would-be shootout is that Chivas will be without their starting man in goal.
The game kicks off late at 9:30 PM Central time on Saturday May 3rd.
