New Season Resolutions

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Most of us make resolutions at the beginning of the new year – to eat healthier, exercise more (or start), quit smoking, and so on. And while I did that (eating healthier didn’t last a week but the exercise is still going well), I believe that we should also make some resolutions for the upcoming Dynamo and Dash seasons.

This will be the most exciting, unexpected, and joyfully confusing season for both teams –the Dynamo getting a new head coach and new players and the Dash adding new players and dealing with the Woman’s World Cup – since it was announced the teams were coming to Houston. It seems logical (to me anyway) that all this newness should lead to a new tradition – New Season Resolutions!

So to start off this new tradition, here are my New Season Resolutions.

  1. I will not pass judgment on Coyle until September.

That should give him enough time to get used to the travel, handle call-ups for the Gold Cup, and acclimatize to the Houston heat. Rock the shorts!
  2. I will learn all the Dash players’ names, even those who are only subbing until after the World Cup.

It’s going to be a revolving door for a while and we will see some of these ladies only once, but they are playing for us.
  3. I will not bash Bruin for failing to hit the back of the net, even on those chances that seem like gimmes.

It can be frustrating for a fan but it is probably doubly frustrating for him. Loud sighing is still ok.
  4. I will not shout at my TV or computer while watching a Dynamo or Dash game.

Even if the ref is a big doo-doo head. Plus it scares my pets and any small children nearby.
  5. I will refrain from loudly, but politely, commenting about the assistant refs during Dash games.

Not sure if this will last the first game – last year the ARs were atrocious!
  6. I will learn to sing another one of supporter group’s songs.

I have "We are Orange" down pat. Time to learn something new.
  7. I will learn the Dash goal celebration dance.

Last year I kept forgetting, going with the standard "jump up and down and yell" celebration.
  8. I will invite a poor, soccer-deprived soul to a Dynamo or Dash game.

Once they see a live game, they’ll be Forever Orange!

So what are your New Season Resolutions?
