Just wanted to let everyone bask in this wonderful photo from today courtesy of Keeper Notes from a photo by Chris Canetti. The pitch is in!
Where's Waldo? The question should instead be, Where isn't he?
Former US international and current Fox Soccer broadcaster Eric Wynalda may be called many things, but one of them is definitely not "shrinking violet." Wynalda, at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Kansas City, Mo. last week, gave a talk entitled "Why Not US?" And why not indeed? This link brings you to the text of Wynalda's remarks that cover everything from Landon Donovan ("A complex guy") to putting the US on a European schedule (He's for it, but not necessarily in the way you would think.) to Klinsmann (for) and ends with an in-room exchange with MLS communications head Will Kuhns. This is a long read, so settle in, but it is worth every train-wrecking , brilliant second you invest in it. Grant Wahl calls it "Wynalda's Howard Beale moment" but it's more brilliant than that.
Dynamo still negotiating with Ibeagha
In this report for Fox Soccer regarding various news and notes from the MLS SuperDraft, Ives Galarcep reported the following: "The Houston Dynamo continue to negotiate with Academy product and US Under-23 national team defender Sebastian Ibeagha but have yet to reach an agreement with the Duke standout. Ibeagha has been impressing with the U-23 team and would be a major off-season score for the Dynamo." This would be a great step to generating some much-needed depth along the back line. Or would it? Maybe too much depth? Maybe Ibeagha becomes trade bait? What do you think?
Nicol thinks Boyd would be great in Houston
Former New England Revolution coach Steve Nicol has high praise for both Kris Boyd and Dominic Kinnear. Speaking to the Scottish Sun here, Nicol said "I haven't spoken to Dominic about him. We're mates but we don't speak about players like that. You don't hear Sir Alex Ferguson on the phone to Harry Redknapp to discuss his targets! But if Dominic did phone me, I'd tell him that Kris would definitely score goals here."
Dynamo get to skip preliminary round of ConcaChampions League
Other than the SuperDraft, there was some other news today. CONCACAF changed the format for the Champions League competition, eliminating the preliminary round. The four-year-old competition will remain a 24-club tournament, but instead of an initial knockout phase of 16 teams, all qualifiers will proceed to a main stage of eight, three-team groups, from which only the winners will advance to the quarterfinals. The competition will begin as previously planned during the week of July 31.
The Guardian: MLS Best and Worst of 2011
A nice article that highlights the highs and lows of the previous season. It also hands out an award to a non-Davis Dynamo. Can you use the word "Dynamo" like that? That's for another day.
State of the Dynamo (Ghosts of Footballing Past)
I was looking at previous FanPosts because I think they provide an interesting snapshot of the prevailing zeitgeist, at least back then. Interesting to note how some of the same issues still seem to be there, whilst some issues are new. Just thought it was interesting, that's all
