MLS Cup week is upon us, and the guys take a look at Saturday's match. But first, they chat about Don Garber's State of the League address and the league's expansion plans. Zach Woosley, of SB Nation and Dynamo Theory, joins the show to talk about the Houston Dynamo side of things. He talks about why Dominic Kinnear might've been doing a happy dance last week and also explains why the Dynamo are not to be overlooked. He also talks about why this year's Dynamo team is better than the incarnation that lost last year's MLS Cup. Next, the LA Galaxy Insider, Adam Serrano, gives the view from Los Angeles. Serrano shares what the Galaxy attack will do to try and get through Houston's vaunted defense and who the key players not named Beckham, Donovan and Keane will be. He also reflects on how the Galaxy's fans view the David Beckham era and what's next for the club after the star's departure. All that plus your normal MLS chat on today's MLS in 30.
The Houston Dynamo are set to compete in the 2013 Carolina Challenge Cup. The tournament will be held on February 16-23, 2013. The Dynamo will join MLS clubs Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps and the Charleston Battery from the USL PRO league. Houston has competed in the tournament twice in the past (2006 & 2007), and won the competition both times. View the official press release here.
Dynamo midfielder Josue Soto is nominated for the NASL Play of the Year for a nice goal from distance. Soto was loaned out to the San Antonio Scorpions and helped the team finish the regular season in first place. This was the Scorpions first season in the NASL.
Ordinary Orange Fan joins the Red Priests to discuss the upcoming Chicago Fire/Houston Dynamo playoff match. Have a listen!
"This is the game that we looked at that needs to be three points. Coming out of here with zero in a tight playoff race, there’s no excuse for how the result went today. We want to be a championship team; we’ve got to beat that team. With a performance like that, I’d expect the coach to be disappointed."
Former Dynamo and current DC United midfielder, Dwayne DeRosario, was injured during Canada's match yesterday. You never really wish this on any team, but it certainly won't hurt the Dynamo's playoffs push to have DCU down a pivotal player like DeRo. This is also more reason for the Dynamo to take the full three points on Friday!
"2 Positives 1. Very proud of the boys last night great result @HoustonDynamo...Nerves of steel @cOlin_cLark7.. 2. I have my visa.. #leggooo" - Giles Barnes
Giles Barnes confirmed today (via Twitter) he has received his visa. He's back in Houston tonight and should be available for selection for next Friday's important match at Livestrong Park against Sporting Kansas City.
We pretty much knew this would be the case, but it's still a bummer considering how much he's meant to the team. Either way, we know he'll be a part of the Dynamo organization moving forward in come capacity.
The Houston Dynamo announced today that Friday's reserve match against Real Salt Lake has been cancelled. In addition, the reserve game against Chicago on September 10th has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 13th. I was looking forward to this Friday's match because their was a possibility that the newest member of the Dynamo, Giles Barnes, could see his first action if all his paperwork was completed. We'll keep you posted on his eligibility so stay tuned to the site for more information. The Houston Dynamo Reserves will continue their season in Utah against the Real Salt Lake Reserves on Wednesday, October 10th. Houston currently sits in first place in the Central/Mountain Division, posting a 5-1-1 record with 16 points in 2012.
