Dynamo Tie Rapids as MLS Returns from World Cup Break

It wasn't the result the Dynamo wanted, but the 2-2 draw against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Robertson Stadium at least ended the team's losing streak. Here's the small victories.

Danny Cruz and Joseph Ngwenya provided the goals for Houston and Dominic Kinnear was pleased with the effort from his two goal scorers.

"Danny [Cruz] was very bright tonight. He provided us good energy out there. He is not afraid to shoot, as you can see. I thought Joe [Ngwenya] was very menacing early in the game, finding pockets underneath, and he took his goal well later on. So it’s nice to see him back on the field, and it’s nice to see him being productive for us."

Despite the improved offensive output, it was the return of defensive mistakes that ultimately cost the Dynamo the full three points. After controlling play for most of the first half, Eddie Robinson made a costly mistake, giving up the ball to Mehdi Ballouchy who found Conor Casey in the 6-yard box, allowed the Rapids to tie the match just before the break.

"No excuses whatsoever," Robinson said. "I let the team down tonight. For me to make a mistake like that, it’s like me punching (teammates)."

In Robinson's defense, he had received a apparently unintentional, but none the less viscous elbow in the throat from Conor Casey only minutes before.
