It was all Dynamo on a hot and humid night at Robertson Stadium and while there were plenty of wasted chances by the men in Orange, Danny Cruz finally found the net early in the second half to give Houston a much needed 1-0 victory.
The Dynamo broke through in the 51st minute on the counter attack. Danny Cruz blew by Danleigh Borman and raced in to the box, waiting long enough to force Stefan Frei to move off his line, before sending a low shot that caromed in off the inside of the far post. Brian Ching gets the assist and lots of credit for both his past and occupying defender Ty Harden allowing Cruz the room on the right side.
Houston have a massive advantage in possession and were rarely threatened by Toronto FC's offense. After the goal, the Dynamo were content to hold the ball, absorb the occasional pressure and look to take advantage of Toronto's need to move forward to look for the equalizer.
Late in the second half, the 81st minute to be exact, a corner taken by Colin Clark pinballed around the Toronto back before falling in to space right in front of a charging Geoff Cameron. The midfielder took full advantage, burying a short range shot past a defenseless Frei, sealing the victory for Houston.
It wasn't the prettiest game, but the Dynamo defense looked strong all night and given the heat, you can't blame them for not wanting to work any harder that was necessary. Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the continued finishing problems for the offense but what more can I really say?
I want to be positive tonight, after all, getting three points at home is something the Dynamo haven't done enough this season so I'm going to be good and we are all going Cruz away in to the sunset and enjoy the three points.
