Dynamo to face Mexican champion Santos in CCL quarterfinals

The Houston Dynamo learned their CCL seed and opponent on Thursday night. After the two final group matches were completed, the Dynamo will be ranked seventh and face off with Liga MX champion Santos Laguna.

The Houston Dynamo found out their opponent for the next phase of the 2012-2013 CONCACAF Champions League - none other than defending Liga MX champion Santos Laguna.

Santos won Group 1 easily, winning all four games while outscoring opponents 13-1. The Dynamo played well throughout the group stage and won Group 3 with 8 points (2-0-2), outscoring opponents 9-3.

This will be a tough opponent for Houston, as Santos has not only seen success in Liga MX, they were the runner up to last year's CCL tournament. Los Guerreros have been one of the most successful Mexican clubs over the last few years. They were runner up to the league title for the Bicentenario 2010, Apertura 2010, Apertura 2011, and were crowned champions in the Clausura 2012.

Currently in the Mexican season, Santos is in contention for a playoff position and will be attempting to defend their championship.

The CCL quarterfinals don't begin until March of 2013, so the rosters for both clubs could change drastically by then. Currently, Santos features some of the best players in Liga MX like Olympic gold medalist Oribe Peralta and United States National team member Herculez Gomez.

Here's how the quarterfinals will look:

(1) Monterrey vs (8) Xelaju
(2) Santos Laguna vs (7) Houston Dynamo
(3) Seattle Sounders vs (6) Tigres
(4) LA Galaxy vs (5) Herediano

The first leg of the quarterfinals will be scheduled between March 5-7, while the second leg will be March 12-14. The higher seed will host the return match.

What do you think of our chances against a team like Santos? What about the fan interest in one of Mexico's best?
