Here's a snapshot of what's happening around the MLS since the end of the MLS Cup. Just two days removed from the final, it's apparent the offseason has begun (thanks Portland for reminding us).
Chivas USA
Declined option on Juan Pablo Angel. He has bounced around a bit after leaving NYRB he ended up in LA but was shipped off to the other side of town to make room for Robbie Keane.
Guess JPA isn't on Goat feeding duty anymore.
Columbus Crew
Declined options on Chris Birchall and Will Hesmer. Brichall's time with the Crew was short logging only six months with the club.
Semi-Crew related high fives to Massive City FFC for starting a twitter storm for a vague tweet about Rafael Marquez joining the Crew which was soon picked up by ESPNS's soccer twitter and began making the rounds until a later tweet came out that the transfer rumor just a little kettle stirring fun. However a few Crew fans may need to or have already sought professional help from the mental trauma.
Colorado Rapids
Declined option on Hunter Freeman. Can we have him back?
D.C. United
Ben Olsen is going to miss Kevin Payne.
The higher ups spent a good chunk of Friday ax-ing their front office staff.
Declined options on Michael Chabala and Stephen King.
FC Dallas
Both Kevin Hartman and Julian de Guzman are out of contract and up for the re-entry draft.
Montreal Impact
Justin Mapp is out of contract. He had been left unprotected by the Phily Union in the expansion draft and was taken the Montreal Impact who are now letting him go.
New England Revolution
Did not pick up the option on Benny Feilhaber's contract. According to his agent he will be looking into playing overseas in hopes of getting back into the National team picture. For some reason he is not eligible for the re-entry draft but I am not clear on why.
New York Red Bulls
Obtained Jamison Olave and Fabin Espindola from RSL in exchange for allocation money.
Got Kosuke Kimura from Portland for allocation money.
Red Bulls collecting players but no word on who is going to coach them.
Who gave them all this allocation money? How does one obtain allocation money? I feel like it's Monopoly money-not real, multicolored and when you really mess you end up in jail without collecting $200.
Philadelphia Union
Freddy Adu is training in Turkey. Perhaps the Turkish can fix his work ethic.
Portland Timbers
Acquired Wil Johnson from RSL for allocation money
Got Michael Harrington from KC for allocation money
Declined options on Lovel Palmer, Stever Purdy and Rodney Wallace.
For sending Kimura to NYRB the Timbers received not only allocation money but the homegown rights to Bryan Gallego. Who is Gallego? Well he happens to be a defender playing for the University of Akron...you know the school Caleb Porter just left to come coach the Timbers. I wonder how full the roster is going to end up of former Akron players.
Toronto FC
Eric Avila is out of contract.
Toronto declined options on Ty Harden and Andrew Wiedeman.
