It's official, the Dynamo have a true right side midfielder at last. Honduran international Oscar Boniek Garcia, a player the team has been pursuing for over a year, will join the club in July pending his visa approval and a transfer certificate when the window opens on June 27th.
Here's what we know. Garcia will be a designated player and this is apparently a full transfer, not a loan deal. Of course, no other particulars about the deal have been released per the super secret rules surrounding everything to do with MLS.
Garcia has been with C.D. Olimpia, a team the Dynamo will face the group stages of the CONCACAF Champions League, since 2007 and helped lead the club to the 2011-12 Honduran League Apertura and Clausura championships. He's also made 67 appearances for the Honduran national team.
He's a 27-year old right winger with a lot of experience in the prime of his career. Assuming he adjust to MLS, this is a hell of a good signing for the Dynamo and could radically improve their attack moving forward. Let's hope all the paperwork goes smoothly and Garcia settles in quickly.
Just for reference, the earliest Garcia could play for the Dynamo would be on June 30th against the Philadelphia Union.
The full press release from the team is after the jump.
HOUSTON, TX (June 7, 2012) - The Houston Dynamo today announced the signing of Honduran midfielder Oscar Boniek García. García will be added to the Dynamo roster as a Designated Player upon receipt of his P-1 Visa and international transfer certificate when the international transfer window opens on June 27. Per team and league policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
García has played for Honduran powerhouse C.D. Olimpia since 2007 after his first tenure with the club from 2003-06. With García, Olimpia captured the 2011-12 Honduran League Apertura and Clausura championships. The midfielder spent 2006-07 with Honduran club C.D. Marathón.
"Oscar is a good player and I have always liked him," Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear said. "He is a versatile midfielder and a good athlete and should do well for us. He is a good signing for us and the league."
The midfielder debuted for the Honduras national team in 2005 and has 67 appearances for his country, including five appearances in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

"We pursued Oscar for over a year, and I'm happy that we were finally able to make it happen.
