Saturday Afternoon Injury Report and Other Miscellanea

By this time tomorrow, the Dynamo will have finished the regular season, for better or worse. Dynamo Theory has the injury report, plus a list of all the playoff scenarios for the men in orange.

USA TODAY Sports

Well, we're one day away from the season finale. We all know what's at stake for the Houston Dynamo, so I'll save the talk and get straight to the injury report.

Dynamo:

OUT: Brian Ownby - Right knee sprain

It's the same as it was last week - the Dynamo should be able to field an optimum starting XI Sunday against D.C. United, who will be playing for nothing more than pride.

----------

Most people have been saying that the Dynamo need to win to have any chance of advancing to the playoffs. Winning certainly opens more scenarios for them to advance, but there is one that could see the Dynamo advance with just a draw - though all scenarios rely on some outside help.

Since the permutations are enough to make your head hurt, here they are in simple list fashion:

For the Dynamo to finish in third place, they need:

  • Win vs D.C. United

  • New England draw or loss at Columbus

  • Chicago draw or loss at New York

For the Dynamo to finish in fourth place, they need:

  • Win vs D.C. United

  • Either:

    • New England draw or loss at Columbus

    • Chicago draw or loss at New York

For the Dynamo to finish in fifth place they need:

  • Win vs D.C. United

OR

  • Draw vs D.C. United
  • New England loss at Columbus

Given their form as of late, I'm not going to bother bringing up the goal differential scenario, even though one exists.

We'll know the results of Philadelphia-Kansas City (PHI 1-2 SKC) and Toronto-Montreal (TFC 1-0 MTL) by the end of the day today, but Columbus-New England and New York-Chicago don't kick off until after the Dynamo have played tomorrow - by which point, we'll know whether or not we even need to follow them.
