Since my last article our friends over @MLSTransfers (very reliable if you didn't know follow them for great transfer information) have stated the Houston Dynamo will be on a scouting trip all over Europe during December for about 8 days. In my last piece I listed a few people who most of us who watch soccer were aware of. This time I dug a little deeper and explored the Bundasliga 2 to find some strikers who could help us get the goals we need. Again I am focusing on 40% and above which is the magic number I've figured we need to get us our goals and wins.
Daniel Ginczek
127 Apps (since 2009)
52 goals
Scoring percentage: 40%
Market value: 2.000.000 €
Current Club: FC Nuremberg
Age 22
Contract until: 06/30/2016
Notes: A rather young striker who already has a number of years under his belt. In his last loan spell with FC St. Pauli he averaged a rather nice 58% success rate in finding the back of the net at the age of just 21! This kid is going places and if we can land him the Dynamo would be an absolute beast of a team.
Dominick (Domi) Kumbela
123 Apps (since 2009)
53 goals
Scoring percentage: 43%
Market value: 1.750.000 €
Current Club: Enitracht Braunschweig
Age 29
Contract until: 06/30/2016
Notes: AMAZING ball control! This man can score goals, and it's documented he was the top Bundasliga 2 scorer for 2013 and the 3 Liga top scorer for 2011. He's done some amazing work to score goals and would more than likely take the Golden Boot here in the MLS.
Anthony Ujah
83 Apps (since 2010)
46 goals
Scoring percentage: 55%
Market value: 2.200.000 €
Current Club: FC Köln
Age 23
Contract until: 06/30/2017
Notes: Speedy forward who can actually score goals! He's not afraid to battle to keep the ball and keep his targets on goal and has scored some lovely headers. He is defiantly worth a long look at for the Houston Dynamo to fill that striker/forward role that we are currently lacking.
The facts are known, we are STACKED in the midfield but are lacking in two areas Forward/Strikers and Defenders...Centre-Backs more precisely. This is my personal opinion since Eddie Robinson left our backline has not been the same. Bobby Boswell is not the leader Eddie was, and he's getting up there in age as well his pace and errors are really starting to show. The players I have suggested are not to be leaders in the back but could grow in to that role in addition these guys are fairly young so they still have the speed and pace we need to avoid major errors for the next few years.
Timi Lahti
Current Club: HJK Helsinki (Veikkausliiga, Finland)
Market value: 400.000 €
Age: 23
Contract until: 12/31/2013
Notes: This kid has some skill and is only on the rise! He always seems to be in the right place at the right time to cover the ball and isn't afraid to chase down and challenge for the ball. He could be an amazing asset to the Dynamo seriously worth pursuing.
Darren Dennehy
Current Club: Cork City FC, (League of Ireland, Ireland)
Market value: 300.000 €
Age: 25
Contract until: 12/31/2013
Notes: Coming up through the youth systems at Everton, but never getting the chance to play first team. He moved to Cardiff Team again not getting the chance to play first team he bounced around on loan several times He is due for a resurgence, and I feel he maybe able to here in the MLS with the Dynamo.
Elfar Freyr Helgason
Current Club: Breidablik UBK (Pepsideild Iceland)
Market value: 200.000 €
Age: 24
Contract until: 06/30/2015
Notes: Still under contract so may cost us a bit to get him, but he's been a central force for Breidablik helping them win the Icelandic League for the first time. He attempted to play for a UEFA team in 2011 with AEK Athens but could never break into the first team during the regular season. Since then he's bounced around and is now back with his starting club Breidablik. He is a solid player who could provide some great support for us in the backfield, which we desperately need.
Final note, we had a bad season this year I saw it coming mid season when we weren't scoring goals, but I was told I was jumping the gun. Honestly, our season never took off, and we didn't get our second half surge like we have in the past. We had a glimmer there for a minute, but again it just didn't happen the team honestly never clicked this season. Now, we are at the end of the season, and people are calling for Dom to be replaced.
Take this into consideration Dom has been our leader since the start of our amazing club going on 8 seasons now. Is it time for a change and shake things up? Or do we place our faith in him, and hope he gets us some players to get us that elusive third title?
So I ask the faithful Dynamo Theory readers and followers please share your opinion and if you call it I will put together a list of possible replacements.
