Preview: Bring Ching's Swan Song

We've been building up to this, and now the day is almost upon us. Friday evening, some of the biggest names in US soccer history will meet at BBVA Compass Stadium for a celebration of one of the biggest names in Dynamo history. Brian Ching's testimonial is a charity game, but it also looks like it will be a good show.

Let's be honest - a preview for this might not have been necessary. But Brian Ching deserves it. He's given eight years to the Houston Dynamo, a preview for his testimonial match isn't too much to ask for, so here goes.

This is a celebration of the career of Brian Ching, with the match proceeds going to one of his charities, The House that Ching Built. On his name and legend some of the greatest players in the history of American soccer (okay, and elsewhere, DeRo) have been invited. These are players that have played with or against Ching (and sometimes both) at some point in his twelve year career, and the list alone is enough to justify the ticket price:

Orange Team White Team
Brian Ching Anthony Arena
Wade Barrett Davy Arnaud
Michael Chabala Bobby Boswell
Paul Dalglish Calen Carr
Brad Davis Colin Clark
Dwayne De Rosario Jimmy Conrad
Kelly Gray Charlie Davies
Nate Jaqua Tyler Deric*
Brian Mullan Landon Donovan*
Pat Onstad* Hunter Freeman
Eddie Robinson Juan Pablo Galavis
Craig Waibel Danny O'Rourke
Chris Wondolowski Steve Ralston
John Spencer

* denotes goalkeepers (Yes, that includes Donovan).

Also participating: Boniek Garcia, Dominic Kinnear.

Coaches are: Corey Ashe, Ricardo Clark, Matt Reis, and Stuart Holden

Seriously, is that not a great list? There are some who I would've liked to see here that either weren't invited or couldn't make it (For all the crap that we Dynamo fans give Taylor Twellman, I have a lot of respect for him and feel that he should be here, among others, such as Geoff Cameron), but all in all, the guys who'll be here will get me stoked to watch this. De Rosario, Robinson, Spencer, Waibel, Onstad, and Dalgish are among those who bring back good memories for any Dynamo fan, and players like Wondo, Donovan, and Arnaud are some of the best in the game as well.

If the roster alone isn't enough to have convinced you to come watch this, perhaps the charity will. The House that Ching Built (as the name suggests) has already given one area family a new home, and hope to use the proceeds from the testimonial to put up another one.

Brian Ching might be moving out of the spotlight, but he won't stop giving back to a city that has adopted him as one of their own. So let's do this one last time. Let's fill BBVA Compass for Ching once more. He's given so much to this city, and this is a chance to help him give even more - all while watching what should prove to be a very entertaining soccer match.
