The Houston Dynamo will open up their U.S. Open Cup campaign against FC Tucson on May 29 at BBVA Compass Stadium. FC Tucson, a Premier Development League club, beat the San Antonio Scorpions last night 4-3 in a penalty shootout. After 90 minutes, the teams were even at 2-2.
The Dynamo will squeeze the match in between two road games - Sunday's game against Sporting Kansas City and next week's match with the Columbus Crew.
Tickets for the match are not included in the Season Ticket Holder package and can be purchased for a pretty great price ($10/$20). It'll be interesting to see how many folks will make it out to the Wednesday night game. You can purchase your tickets by visiting the Dynamo website.
Based on the tough road schedule, I'd expect to see a heavy reserve squad used against Tucson. Brian Ownby, who is on loan with the Richmond Kickers, will be available to the Dynamo for the tournament. Richmond is also active in the U.S. Open Cup and will face D.C. United in their next match.
This will be Houston's first match against FC Tucson. Earlier in the year, the Dynamo participated in the Desert Friendlies, a preseason tournament hosted by FC Tucson, but did not face the PDL club.
Last year in U.S. Open Cup play, the Dynamo were eliminated in their first match of the tournament against the San Antonio Scorpions. Houston is 5-6-1 all time in the competition and have reached the semifinals twice.
