Mock Dispersal Draft: Where the Goats Could Wind Up

Dynamo Theory took part in a mock dispersal draft with the other MLS SB Nation blogs to see where some Chivas USA players might end up

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Here at Dynamo Theory we can't help but think "what if" so we took part in a mock dispersal draft to see where the former Chivas USA players could end up. With the 11th pick of the draft, it was unlikely that an immediate answer at any position would be available. This was Chivas we're talking about, the team that finished 16th out of 19 MLS teams. Still, the mock draft provided a fun chance to play GM and fewer teams passed than what's expected because of that fact.

Here is how the teams selected in this mock draft:

The two biggest needs for the Dynamo are in central defense and depth in the forward pool. While we all wish that Erick "Cubo" Torres was available to be selected, it would be highly unlikely (read impossible) for him to fall to the 11th spot if he were available at all. Defensive options were slim at the 11th spot so we opted to select forward Caleb Calvert. The homegrown product doesn't even have a Wikipedia page, but there is potential for him to develop given time. Calvert doesn't command a large salary at $62,500 in guaranteed compensation which, when compared to the other options available is quite low, so he could end up being a steal without too much of a gamble.

Midfielder and make-shift defender Nathan Sturgis was someone that I had thought about, but midfield depth isn't a huge concern and while he can fill in at CB, he's hardly an answer at his price.

Alicia and I had originally joked about drafting Chivas USA's nickname "the goats" so that we could potentially have two mascots, Diesel and the Goat (which sounds like an amazing radio duo), but we figured that the others selecting wouldn't share our brand of humor. Besides, we can always pick up the nickname/mascot on waivers since it/he wasn't selected.

This is the link to the official article where our selections and comments about our selections are posted so feel free to take a look and see why we all decided to not pass.

So how do you think the Dynamo made off in this mock draft? Who would you have selected or would you pass? Let us know in the comments!
