Dash acquire midfielder Ashley Nick from Sky Blue FC

Continuing the offseason player transactions, the Houston Dash pluck Ashley Nick from Sky Blue FC in exchange for 2nd and 4th round picks of the 2015 College Draft.

Friday afternoon saw the Houston Dash continue to deal for new offseason acquisitions as they grabbed the player rights for midfielder Ashley Nick from Sky Blue FC. The Dash's 2nd and 4th round picks in the 2015 College Draft were sent the other way for the experienced 27-year old.

The move signals that the Dash are preparing for what will become a trying 2015 season as they expect to be without players during the Women's World Cup over the summer. Dash head coach Randy Waldrum pointed to her years of professional experience, sound defense, and ability to spark plays from the midfield as important attributes that will bolster the Dash heading into the club's second season. The signing of Nick marks the second midfieldersigning in two days for the Dash, accompanying Brazilian International Rosana.

Nick had signed with Sky Blue at the end of the 2013 season and has since tallied 19 starts in 25 regular season appearances with one goal to her name. Currently, Nick is wrapping up a brief stint with Apollon Ladies FC of the Cypriot First Division, where she earned starts in the UEFA Women's Champions' League Round of 32 against Denmark's Brøndby IF.

Previously, Nick had captained FC Twente to an Eredivisie title in the 2010-11 season and a second-place finish the following year. In 2013, she won the W-League Championship and was named Championship MVP with the PaliBlues of Los Angeles, California before joining Sky Blue FC.

After dealing the 2015 draft picks, the Dash maintain the overall first pick as well as third pick in the second and fourth rounds (numbers 1, 13, and 31, overall).  The 2015 NWSL College Draft takes place on January 16, 2015 from Philadelphia.
