After her stellar performance in the CONCACAF Women's Championship Tournament, it should come as no surprise Carli Lloyd was named as one of the five finalists for the U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year. Throughout the 2014 National Team season, Lloyd had a combined ten goals and eight assists, ranking second on the team in scoring. Acquired by the Dash in October via trade from Western New York, she played in every minute and netted five goals and four assists throughout the tournament, earning the well deserved Golden Ball.
Her ability to find the back of the net wasn't limited to the National Team, however. Netting eight goals with Western New York put her as the second-leading scorer for the club tying her for 9th place on the leader board, along with being ranked 7th with five assists.
The winner is expected to be announced during the Women's World Cup draw on Saturday, December 6th, on FOX Sports 1. Other nominees include 2014 NWSL Champion Lauren Holiday, third-leading USWNT scorer Sydney Leroux, Damallsvenskan top scorer Christian Press and the USWNT top scorer and six time award winner Abby Wambach.
