Coyle was the favorite for the Dynamo job from the start. He coached Stuart Holden at Bolton. Holden's input was sought by the Dynamo.

Coyle has coached Wigan Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and Burnley as well as several Scottish teams. Coyle was fired from his last coaching job, Wigan Athletic, in December 2013 when the club was 14th in the table. That Coyle would be in the lead for the position is no surprise as he has had several interactions with Houston in the past. Among them signing former Houston Dynamo midfielder Stuart Holden to the Wanderers. While in Bolton the pair came with the team to participate in the Dynamo Charities Cup in 2011.
Update
Can double down on reports that Owen Coyle has interviewed for the position and is a top candidate for the job.
