Sameshima To Miss Algrave Cup

Dash defender will miss National team duty due to injury.

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

In a release sent out by the Japanese Football Association it was announced that Aya Sameshima is pulling out from the Algrave Cup due to injury. The defender picked up an injury on her first day of training camp and is believed to be suffering from a right knee injury.

Nadeshiko Japan will be facing the United States, Sweden and Denmark in the group stages of the Algrave Cup which runs from March 5-12. Two Dash players are on the roster for the United States- Whitney Engen and Meghan Klingeberg. Lauren Sessleman and Erin McLeod have both been called up by the Canadian Women's team to play in the Cyprus Cup taking place from March 3-12.

Injury is always the biggest concern for clubs when it comes to national duty and major injuries always spark debate about if top players should compete in international games.

Dash training camp opens March 10.
