Dynamo Defeat Impact 1-0

Will Bruin does it again as his goal lifts the Dynamo over the Impact.

Houston faced off against Montreal in a wet BBVA Compass stadium Saturday night as a light drizzle fell through out the match. A rematch of last seasons play-in game for the MLS Cup playoffs Montreal was without Marco Di Vaio who was still serving a three game suspension for his end of game antics against the Dynamo in the play-in game.

The first half was a bit lack luster but the Dynamo managed to dominate possession 55% to the Impacts 45% despite what felt like slight Impact dominance. Both teams had chances with neither dominating the other. The Dynamo seemed to get closer and closer to goal with their build up out of the back but unfortunately turned the ball over on repeated occasion.

After again building up out of the back the ball went out for a Brad Davis throw in. Giles Barnes got a hold of the ball and sent a short pass to Will Bruin. After dribbling back and forth trying to find space between defenders Bruin shot the ball and it deflected off the Impact's Eric Miller which shot it over goal keeper Troy Perkins to give the Dynamo a 1-0 lead in the 40'.

The second half was more of the same with each team having chances yet neither one getting in the net. Boniek Garcia tried to join Bruin in the scoring column but was repeatedly denied by keeper Troy Perkins. As the game wore on the Impact's chances began to increase as the midfield began to break down as did communication in the Dynamo's back line but Kofi Sarkodie came up big and denied the Impact several goals. With ten minutes left in the game Brian Ownby came on for Andrew Driver who had a solid yet quiet game. Brad Davis went down eventually walking off the field to have Servando Carrasco substituted on in his place. Rookie Mark Sherrod was also subbed on for the second week in a row this time in place of Giles Barnes as the team looked to kill the clock.

The first half goal was all it took for the Dynamo to hold on for a win put them 2-0 on the season. Last season Bruin couldn't seem to buy goals but this season everyone wants to give him goals.

The Dynamo have next week off but will resume playing again on March 29 as they take on Vancouver at BC Place.
