Sesslemann picks up injury in Cyprus

Dash prospect could be out for NWSL season.

Houston Dash

A serious knee injury forced Canadian defender Lauren Sesslemann back home to Wisconsin Wednesday ahead of the Canadian Women's National Team run in the Cyprus Cup tournament and just days before the Dash training camp begins.

A spokesperson from the Canadian Soccer Association related the news before the team's match against Finland. Sessleman had apparently picked up a "cruciate injury" during the team's training last week. Though she has not officially signed with the Dash, her future with Houston's NWSL team could now be in jeopardy.

A seasoned-veteran of the CanWNT, the 30-year-old has a total of 39 caps, including 33 starts with the national team. Despite the injury, Sesslemann seemed in high spirits, taking to Twitter, stating, "A huge thank you to my CanWNT, family, fans and friends for the well wishes!! I promise I will work my butt off to get back on field soon!!"

The Houston Dash will open training March 10.
