The Dynamo are back in action this Sunday after blanking the Columbus Crew 1-0 with Will Bruin's unorthodox and unusual goal being the decider alongside a great defensive display led by Tally Hall. The Houston Dynamo will take on Real Salt Lake this Mother's Day at BBVA Compass Stadium and they look to extend their winning streak to 3 games.
While the Dynamo managed a 1-0 win against the Columbus Crew, it was by no means an easy or pretty victory. The Dynamo had a tough time breaking down the Crew defense in the first half, something that they'll need to do against an equally stingy RSL defense. The Dynamo will also have to face one of the best midfields in the league led by both Kyle Beckerman as the defensive mid-anchor and Javier Morales as the playmaker. If the Dynamo can control the possession, they may see a good result out of this one.
Though this is an extremely talented Real Salt Lake side, they were very fortunate their previous match against the last place Chicago Fire to see 3 points as two goals outside of the 90th minute mark saw them through. This game will serve as a litmus test to see how far the Dynamo has come from their winless spree. Real Salt Lake is simply one of the best built teams in the league and I have no idea why Jason Kreis would want to step away from that. The forward talent is there, the midfield is phenomenal, and the defense and goalkeeping is as good as any in the league. Still, this is a Real Salt Lake side having to adjust to a new head coach which is an intangible that could help the Dynamo. RSL hasn't lost a game this year which is certainly daunting, but they've drawn 5 out of their 9 games played and their previous win over Chicago was anything but a convincing win.
The Dynamo will need to limit their mistakes and capitalize on the chances that they get. That's not an easy order for a team just now getting on the right track, but having the home field advantage should help. This one will be a battle of the midfields and could be a nail biter of a match as Real Salt Lake has the benefit of not having to play a mid-week match. The game kicks off this Mother's Day (Sunday for those of you that don't like your mothers) at 6 PM central.
