Wednesday afternoon it was announced that the Houston Dash had signed Kelly McFarlane. The midfielder was signed as a discovery player and had been on trial with the team prior to the start of the season.
"Kelly is a player that we invited into our preseason and she did outstanding during her stay," said head coach Randy Waldrum in a press release. "She is a defensive central midfield player and was very effective in that role for North Carolina. She's tough, talented, can cover a lot of ground, and she reads the game very well. I think she's going to be a great complement to Becky Edwards in midfield. With the addition of Kaylyn Kyle and now Kelly, we are getting closer to being where we need to be in midfield."
McFarlane went to college at the University of North Carolina where she played alongside Kealia Ohai. She played 92 games while in college, scoring five goals and 14 assists.
Available for their match Wednesday evening McFarlane came in game in the 75th minute to replace Nina Burger but was unable to help the team draw level with the Thorns and they fell 0-1.
