FIFA World Cup 2014: Netherlands vs Mexico, Costa Rica vs Greece Live Game Thread

Day two of the round of 16.

Dean Mouhtaropoulos

Netherlands vs Mexico

Kickoff 11am CT

Netherlands topped their group by winning all three of their games while Mexico ended up second in their group on goal differential. José Juan Vázquez will be suspended for Mexico for this match while Robin van Persie will be back from suspension for the Netherlands. Arjen Robben and van Persie both have three goals so far this tournament and will pose a tough test for the Mexican defense. The Mexican keeper Guillermo Ochoa has been outstanding so far for the team. Most are easily giving this game to the Netherlands but if Mexico can get under the skin of Nigel de Jong they may have a good chance.

Costa Rica vs Greece

Kickoff 3pmCT

Both teams were the surprises of their groups. Costa Rica came out of Group D on top after beating Italy, England and Uruguay while Greece came out of Group C in second place. Both teams were able to do so in large part to their strong defenses. Both teams flourish when counter attacking and neither are inclined to straight up attack. If one of the teams decides to push forward it will give them an advantage if they can control possession of the ball.
