The U.S. Women's National Team released the roster for the upcoming matches against France and England and Head Coach Jill Ellis has named three Houston Dash players to the team.
In a press release Friday, it was announced the 24-player squad would include Dash midfielders Carli Lloyd and Morgan Brian as well as defender Meghan Klingenberg. The team will be in Europe for 13 days, with the France match scheduled for 11 a.m. CT Feb. 8 in Lorient (on ESPN2) and the England match up to be at 2 p.m. CT Feb. 13 in Milton Keynes (broadcasted on FOX Sports 1). France is currently the third-ranked women's team in the world by FIFA, with England in sixth and the United States women in second.
Carli Lloyd has tallied 183 caps for the USWNT, notching 61 international goals in her career. In 2014, the 32-year-old led the US in goals (15), assists (8) and starts (23 out of 24) while also earning the Golden Ball award at the CONCACAF Women's Championship. She was also named a finalist for U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.
Morgan Brian is the youngest player on this USWNT roster, at the age of 21. A native of St. Simons Island, Ga., she has made 19 appearances for the full national team and tallied three goals. The midfielder was recently the No. 1 overall pick in the NWSL College Draft, picked up by the Dash from the University of Virginia.
Meghan Klingenberg has made 23 appearances for the women's national team. Originally from Pittsburgh, the 26-year-old defender started two matches during the U.S.' runner-up finish at the International Tournament of Brasilia in December 2014.
Lloyd, Brian and Klingenberg were amongst the players who were recently called up for the USWNT January training camp in Carson, Calif.
The 2015 NWSL season will begin on April 10 for the Houston Dash as they take on the Washington Spirit at BBVA Compass stadium.
